    Default 808nm to 532nm

    hiya all.

iv found a website selling 2w of 808nm infered laser diode for $178 which i think is a real shame cause it cant be seen and its pretty cheap, im actually looking at buying 2x1 watt greenies and would love to be able to somehow get the 808nm to become 532nm.
maybe this isnt possible but i thought it be well worth asking, if this is a complete non starter then has anyone got 2x 1 watt greenies reletivly cheap. im looking at arund £1500 for two.

    cheers ollie

808 is used to pump yag which produced 1064 IR. that is then sent thru a second crystal which makes the 1064 532 (green) BUT for 2W of 808 you only get like 300mW of green (or less im not exactly sure)

there are a few in here that know lots about this including m3chenge.

well thats how all green DPSS work .. there is a ton of loss but its still prety cheap in the long run

well its more complicated than that..
you have to get the 2 crystals, align them, cool them (TEC), have the proper collimating optics, build the enclosure. and so on and so on..
its no small feat and it should be done in a clean environment as well (from what i gather)

there are some threads on the board with more info than i can give you.. mayby somebody will post some links to those threads... anyone... anyone...

If you're just looking to save money it's probably not such a great idea to try to build your own 1W DPSS laser. It isn't easy, and you'll likely end up spending more money on the project than had you bought a finished laser.

There is a middle ground though. You can buy a broken or underperforming laser and fix it. This is still difficult and involves a certain risk, but I think you are more likely to save money this way.

If you have more pump, the nonlinear process gets better. What I mean is larger diodes create larger fields, and conversion gain goes up. Its a non linear function, and to a point, coverts much better as you get the fields up.
