As there are various aspects of control for both Laser control / DMX lighting control and VJ apps that can all utilise Midi now days, i would be suggesting building a number of control interfaces, in this i mean

- Touch pad
- Jog shuttle Wheel
- Slider Horizontal and Vertical
- Pitch type roller thing that is spring loaded
- pressure sensitive keys as used in midi keyboard etc

Each control method will shine dependant in what effect parameter you are controlling.

Having multiple of each control would be good, also the ability to have each control map to multi effects would be handy too.

Having said the above the unit if it has all of these is going to look really weird, good luck making it look cool, and please put me down as a beta tester if you need a guineapig to test with

PS im sure you can find some spare space to some how work a touch pad surace in they alway are handy or mapping effects too.

The Novation REMOTE SL Mk II has nearly all of those features see here.
Also I like the look of the Novation ZERO SL Mk II basically the same but without the keyboard.

I've done the USB in software thing on a AVR MEGA8 and mega 16, I'd love to give it away, but I signed a ND.

The USB-in-software thing is available freely; it's even in an Atmel appnote.

The only reason I use AVR is the inst set is close enough to my old favorite 8051 I learned on. That and the fact that a client bought me BASCOM-AVR. And the development environment was free, and ponyprog is next to free. It had to be a freeware programmer, as friends don't let friends buy AVR-DRAGONS, as I found out the hard way. That died the day I got it.

We're not gonna get into the friends don't let friends program X micro discussion, each has their place.

Besides that 40 pin monster has enough IO do do something with.

EVER SEE THE DATA SHEET FOR THE MILITARY 200 Mhz ECL LOGIC 8051 THAT NEEDED 25 WATTS? THAT WAS IN 88 OR SO.
I always wondered why they put that in the databook. I don't thnk mere mortals could order them.

I saw some of thos and did some ebay trawling and wish i was in the states as i could not get anyone to deliver to Australia. (didnt think a trip to post office was to much to ask) if you have good timing some of these go or a song.
