    Default Rhodamine 6g & 532nm

    Hi Guy`s

This is just a "Total out of curiosity" question....

I have a small bottle of rhodamine 6g that i have had for 15 years.

I used it for a flashlamp pumped dye laser that i had 15 years ago

The Question is would it be possible to pump it with a 532nm dpss & if so what pump power would be required.

And if it can be pumped with the 532 what would the dye need to be in I.E cuvet or spray jet e.t.c.

    Cheers

    topic too broad.

    how much do you have?
is it in liquid or powder?
do you have a laser to flow?
    do you have the resonator?

your question can not be answered as asked.

to answer the only question you asked with the information provided "could you pump it with a 532 dpss laser?

    the only answer is YES

Will it lase? - depends on how you answer only a few of my above questions.

sorry but not a well thought out question.

how much pump power do you have? Is your pump laser qswitched?

    Hi
My apologies for being a bit incoherant with my question`s
I have in powder form a level teaspoon of R6G
    Laser to flow NO
    Resonator NO

    Looking for advice & help

WADR - you are a long way from one level teaspoon of powdered dye to red laser beam of light on the wall utilizing a 2 watt 532 pump source. But if you were to fill in the blanks (of which there are countless steps) between a teaspoon of powdered dye to a beam of red light on the wall you should be able to expect about 30% conversion efficiency from green cw laser to a red cw laser in a perfect world.

I have no idea where to tell you to begin, because you basically have nothing except one teaspoon of r6g powder dye which is actually the easiest thing to obtain.

IMHO the shortest path for you to get red light on the wall as a cw beam is to purchase a SP-375 or a Coherent 599 dye laser, pump it with your 2 watt cw 532 and if you have everything perfectly aligned you might pass lasing threshold an achieve may be 250 mw at 590nm, may be just a tad more.

    Hi Steve

The "Pump power" Laser is a 1 Watt 532nm Dpss

I Started this thread as an ""Out of Curiosity Question "

The laser has both TTL & Analog Blanking

I found the bottle of R6G today & thought that i would ask for advice

I dont know much about Dye laser System`s & i am just asking for some guidance & help

forgot to add, that powder is deadly if used improperly and should be handled by only qualified trained technicians...but that is just my .02

R6g in a flowing jet in a ring laser thresholds around 500+ mW of tightly focused green. The dye has to be at 40-80 psi to get a fast enough flow for triplet state quenching reasons. Coherent 960 dye heads show up on ebay for like 99$ , nobody wants them any more.

Steve, would you agree that getting a ring laser operating at any where close to optimum performance with a 1 watt 532 pump is beyond the scope of most hobbiest grasp.
