    Default out of curiosity...

do most of you use the "floating stage" design for building projectors? or do you ususally mount them right to the base plate?

i am thinking of desgingin/manufacturing some sort of a mounting table that is vertically adjustable for the modules. i know edmund and newport and such have these available, but theyre about $500.

i build all my clients projectors with the vertical stage design. IMO, it makes alignemnt MUCH easier and t also allows for space underneath if needed.

just curious if there is a market for such a mount??

I find it easier to not put them on tables and take care of the height difference with an extra bounce mirror between laser and dichro ...

I am with you FourDee.... I prefer to open all my degrees of freedom and take a small loss of the bounce mirror then tie myself up mechanically...

The bounce mirror lets me align vertically to the spot on the dichoric and accurately control horizontally.
Two quick easy adjust on the mirror micrometers give me perfect near field alignment.

But cost of the extra bounce mirrors is a consideration....

I prefer to use chimneys, and adjust the hight with .1mm copper sheets.
Especially because both my red and blue laser dissipate 40watt in their peltiers.
Which would be, I think, a problem in your design

I too am going with the "bounce" mirrors. Added benefit allowing you to heatsink the lasers to a breadboard (trying to avoid fans near the optics).

I actually never considered the effetcs of heat disapation when shimming... One more reason to hard mount the laser and ajust with a stearing mirror

    Default Easy answer

    pat-

i bought a few of those mounts you suggested above.

they SUCK!!! TERRIBLE!!! i tried to adjust one and the it shorted out one of my blu-rays.

    (im just kidding everyone!!!)

    theyre good mounts!!!

ok, so i guess im the only one that uses "stages." ok. thanks everyone. arent the laser apertures too low with your avg dichro mounts and scanner blocks?

i tried the direct mount recently and i noticed that with 3 axis mounts, the thumb knobs would hit the base plate. also, the beams were too low to enter the scan block. so, i went back to the stages.
