    My version of Pat's Lament....

    Buyer, "I need a 85 argon tube"

    Me, "Ok, I can get one out of stock in St Louis"

    Buyer, "How much"

    Me" 575 for a tube and magnet, 1500 for a head and you'll need to pay for crating and air ride freight, but sometimes we can deliver if we have a service call near you"

    Buyer, "but there is one on ebay for 250$"

    Me, "mine works and comes with a video of the PM and current reading and a WWV time and date stamp, if you can wait till we have a service call in the area, we'll drop it off to you, often we stay and install it at no charge"

    Buyer"That is too much, will you take 250 and ship it UPS?"

    Me "mine arrives properly packed and if it doesn't survive shipping we file a claim and get you another one, usually within a week, but I can't come down in price, but when I'm done you'll be happy with what you have."

    Buyer"I'm going for the ebay one, you are too expensive and I think its only worth 200 anyways, and I bet you only paid 50$ for them"

    Me,"Ok, but make sure you have it shiped air ride or pick it up, they are very fragile"

    Wait two weeks;
    Read Alt.lasers "Anybody here know someone who will put a brewster stem back on a tube for 100$? UPS smacked mine :-( can I do it with superglue? Can I use welding grade argon and the manifold vacuum from my car's engine?, how do I seal off the fill stem?, the FAQ says I need this 3300$ tool, and I dont beleve its that hard to do...."

    This has happened so many times its NOT a LOL matter.

    Well... As far as CALEM goes, I would love to come but I dont think I'd be able to pull it off unless it was like late summer, maybe even early fall. August september time frame. I just have too much other stuff going on before then, and I've been taking a ton of vacation time already

    If you mean setting the record for the most powerful visible laser "in operation" at a LEM, then yes - you are the current record holder.

    However, I should point out that Clandestiny did have a copper vapor laser in attendance at FLEM 4 last fall. I believe it was conservatively rated at around 120 watts, though Paul can certainly provide more details about this. Sadly, we didn't have any 3 phase power available to fire it up. We *did* get a chance to look (that is, drool) over the head though...
