I suffer from the Dunning–Kruger effect... daily.
I found a thread prefixer a while ago but it would not specify forums it would work under... it was an all or nothing deal and I did not feel like mucking up the rest of the board to get this feature for BST.
It's on the "weekly check for new" list that I have here though. So the second something comes up that treats the board and database humanely, ill jump right to it.

you could just require prefixes in the BST
"Allow Thread Prefixes in this Forum
Thread Prefix Required in this Forum."

I err on the side of caution when it comes to database *changes* instead of additions.
I've gone through the code base on that mod and I didn't like its feel. Would not update with the core vBulletin software very well.
Don't get me wrong... new features are great but when new features screw up code changed by the vbulletin staff I run into all sorts of errors... please reference the failed April fools joke... I am still ripping *changed* phrases out of the database.
yea... not fun.

FYI the "Quote message in reply?" checkbox is missing, at least in my browser...
i understand where you are coming from with the codebase issue.. i have dealt with issues with 'improving' the SMF codebase in 'that other forum' that i run..
just thought i'd put a bug in your ear about it because it would be a nice feature
