Yes I understand. But let me point out that, I guess our behavior blurs the line between update and upgrade. For example, in LD2000 version 2.0, we introduced (to the world...) Projection Zones. We didn't ask for more money... All along we have been adding new programs. For example, Asteroids, the Winamp plug-in, TraceIT, LC-Flash, etc. Each time we have added these things and incremented our version number, but never asked for more money... Each one of these things could have been deemed an "upgrade".

And with our latest development, Lasershow Designer QuickShow version 1.0, again, we are giving this to Pangolin users at no cost. This is 100% new software developed from the ground up, with all brand new features. We could, if we so choose, cal this an "upgrade". So far we have not.

Basically, as long as new clients keep buying our software, it allows us to give more and more to existing clients. That's the business model we have used for a long time. I don't want to change it. But if people are willing to pay for version 2 of one sofware, or version 3 of another, then it's mighty tempting... After all, I just love them pink Hummers with P logo on the side and beams in the back.

    But I digress... (or do I? )

Pink Hummer? Screw that, I'm saving up for something similar to clandestiny's sweet ride:

I certainly wouldn't mind paying for upgrades to the software, maybe just keep it somewhat in the "hobbiests" budget!

    Hi OG,

    Great job you did!!
But as you noticed, MediaLas has to do something about a good way of presentation its products.

After reading all the posts here, 'we' users have problems with:
    1) The 'few' differences between V1.9x and V2.0 and
    2) The fee for the upgrade.

MediaLas could have saved a lot of trouble (read: negative posts) here if they did a better introduction of MB2. So, if they explained the 1.96-to-2.0 step instead of 1.96-to-1.97 and explained the high fee, 'our' reactions where be better too.

    As example for above points:
    1) In previous updates, there was always a ChangeLog file included in the download.
It contains all changes since the last build release. It would be good to post this file here.

    2) As I can remember, Mamba was born in 2004 and all updates where free of charge.
Does that mean that, if we pay this fee, it will last for 5 years again or just from version 2.0 till 2.99?
In other words, is it possible (in theory) that MediaLas will release MambaBlack V3.0 next year and we have to pay again a new fee?

Please please ask Dirk to create an account here on this forum.
It will be a good opportunity for him to promote his products and to answer (software) questions.

Keep up the good Mamba, ehhhhh, work!

There are certain high ranking company sttaff members (read owners) who take the time to listen and join in with us at the grass roots of the business - others think it below them.
Now consider how much Kudos is asigned to the following initials....

    Hi,

Then ML, MB will not receive an order 1.96 to onto 2.0.
When the users do not pay MB updates . Will be free update possibly then. Or the developments are thrown out into the dustbin?

Let's not confuse Medialas with Microsoft here. The market for laser software isn't enormous, and someone needs to pay OG's salary!
I bought my copy of Mamba, second-hand, from another PL member last year, and Medialas were happy to transfer the licence and keep supplying updates, free of charge. That's good service, in my book.
In return, I have been prepared to pay for the version 2 upgrade, on the basis that it helps to secure future development of a product that I like. OK, there's still a big wishlist, but they are getting there. For some reason, people are happy to pay for new hardware but baulk at forking out for new software - perhaps it's the intangible nature of the product, but software doesn't develop itself. Also, I notice that there have been some complaints that the new version looks too much like the old version; however, I'd bet that if it looked different someone else would winge!
Mamba remains the best European competition to Pangolin's products and I, for one, don't want to see a monopoly (regardless of how good the competition is!).

There are several other contenders for the spot of "best European competition to Pangolin"... You've got Phoenix, Moncha, Lasergraph DSP, and Laser Design Studio, to name just a few. (OK, they're not all based in Europe, but they do all compete with Pangolin.)

Bottom line: Mamba Black is not the only other option besides Pangolin.

Of course there is other software available, you could also include Laserworld Showeditor, and it's half-brother HE-Laserscan-III; however, I reckon Mamba probably sells more than any of these, hence my choice of words ' best competition' - I didn't mean it was necessarily the best software...
