I don't have 3 phase access at home - I may get it in a friend of my dads workshop. Even if I don't, I can build a rotary phase convertor!I know I'll need a transformer too - but I can pick one up somewhere.
It could be a pretty paperweight, but hey, it could also be a great deal!
As for the drive, I plan on getting it shipped. It can survive!
@ Laser_ben: there may actually be a chance of cheepish 3phase, i'm 60 yards from the neighbhourhood transformer, with any luck, it's 3ph ( It's inside a brick box, so no way of seeing ). There also used to be a huge warehouse across the road from me which probably had three phase too.

An Ebay seller offering a high-value item with no Paypal account and only 10 feedback points would certainly sound my warning bells - and the price seems low for a 'new' 2W laser. Unless you can visit the seller, (or get a friend to do so on your behalf) , I wouldn't take the risk.

They did offer local pick-up/payment but that is just way to far from California for me to travel. Not to mention the house arrest.
