This is a standard tactic of sketchy ebay dealers, when they go out of stock on an item they change the price to 10-100x what it should be. No one in their right mind will buy it at that point (although like you noticed, they still get people looking at the listing) and if some idiot does buy it all they need to do is drop ship you one at a 10x-100x profit. It is at least better than the other accepted method of just cancelling bids...
