    Are these 658nm's any good?

Look to be beefed up LOC diodes.

They do have some nice 1W 808nm diodes, in case you want to roll your own DPSS...

The case is just from a high power resistor, with what I'm 99% sure is just a LOC diode, basicly, you pay 115$ + ship for what costs him 20$ to make.

That's what I figured at first, but there is NO WAY you can squeeze 400-450mW of power out of a LOC in stable CW operation. You might get quite some mW with a TEC, but even the power levels we're running them (250-300mW) is already pushing the limit on passive cooling.

If I want a LOC mounted in a heat sink with collimating lens and whatnot, I'm not going to bother much. Just need to wait until they ship BluRay versions as well, or deliberately test one to destruction ('to determine maximum power levels') and salvage the mount.

This looks to be a very interesting and shiny LICONIX 5302AH.
I reckon the chiller is worth the start price on its own.

suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.
