Don't remove the base ... USE IT ... just turn the mount upside down, use nylon hex spacers to avoid thermal bridging and clamp the Peltier under what was the top.

just came across this strange assy

i am intringued by the 3 pbs, but what's more interesting is the knife edging setup. imagine this with square mirrors and 100tpi screws. wouldn't it allow all the tweaking we need for knife edging?
