I think you would be better off with a pair of mitsu 635s "corrected" running through a pinhole and probably get a better and brighter (apparent) beam.

Agreed Big old Laser pointer red flash light thingy with loud fans I have some 650 diodes I got a while back from Briggs just need a set of heat sinks and optics I can pull almost half a watt out of them much cheaper too.
