Heh, I know it doesn't 'matter' for you blokesbut I just had-to ask them:
"Dear... Since you posted "FDA Variance: Yes; This unit is legal for public use in the U.S. unlike most others listed on eBay" we'd like to ask for the CDRH accession# for the approval of this as a Certified Projector - shouldn't be a 'secret', since that is public-information, as-found in the Federal register, etc. We'd need to know this, so we could review the approval / info, so-as to not go thru the frustration of making an offer - and having it get accepted - only to get our Variance-amendment, (to add this system..) rejected by the CDRH of the FDA. Looking forward to a prompt-reply, thanks!
- J"
..let's see if they even reply, eh?...
Meh....all due-respect, here's a 'beautifuler' one... http://cgi.ebay.com/Spectra-Physics-...-/190363802066 - and at least I can state, "oh, yeah, it definitely-works, baby!..."
Thanks fer the link, tho... that is quite a clean-looking CR..
peace...

The fact that the "related items" in the Ebay listing from this seller are all Laserworld products rasies a serious concern but is also quite comical!
Also, on Motionloops.com, they are offering all kinds of Laserworld junk including moving head lasers. Come on now, this has to be BS. A Texas based company offering all this non-certified stuff?
LOL!

Heh, actually got a 'reply' from the seller on this!
..so, I asked for the Approval Letter-ref for this projector, (see Post# 738, above...) and I got:
Hello,Thanks for your inquiry. The enclosure has recently been updated on this model to accommodate newer diodes for high power versions. The product reports have already been filed and we are waiting on the updated accession number and variance from FDA on this new enclosure that is used for 16-35W. For RGB or Green-only power up to 15W in the old model enclosure accession number is still valid #0910292 with variance #2009V-0307.
...Wow, an actual variance from a ChOEM! Impressive!......http://www.regulations.gov/#!documen...09-V-0307-0003 ...until you READ IT!!!
http://www.regulations.gov/#!documen...09-V-0307-0001 - check-out the answers to Section 9: "It is scanned. modulation rate : Analog 10 up to 30kHz optional, scanning rate : ILEA 40Kpps, and the amplitude is 1.75mm." (!!!!!) ROFL! Which makes you wonder - does the CDRH actually READ these apps?? Sure seems like this one 'slipped thru the cracks'...
...But, regardless - snipping from above: "...and we are waiting on the updated accession number and variance from FDA on this new enclosure that is used for 16-35W.."...So, then, "FDA Variance: Yes; This unit is legal for public use in the U.S. unlike most others listed on eBay" - is just more of the same-old BS!!! It ain't legal to sell till it's approved... And just cause they 'approved' one model, does not mean that the next one will *automatically* be approved... They might actually READ the Product Report, this time!
..I mean, not sure about you, but I'd sure be ticked if I dropped 184,000 juju-fish on a projector, and then found out - really - I had to *wait* to see if CDRH'd approve it, since, when I went to get my Variance, listing this 'new model', I'd likely just get the same-response as that recent-guy did over in the LW-thread, there... 'Sorry, pal, your desired-projector is not-yet approved'...
Sheesh, same ol' games...

"ChOEM" LOL.
So in response to all this information, and the fact that a video animation company is selling all of these illegal projectors...what will be done about it?
Do we just shrug it off and keep going about our business?
It's much harder to do things the right way, and much more expensive. I know that for a fact, so it's VERY frustrating to see some whack job USA based video company whoring these Chinese projectors out on the internet.
Will the shit ever hit the fan for a company like this or the rest of the USA based Ebay sellers hocking illegal boxes?
That SP171 is an ABSOLUTE work of ART! Given the condition it's in and the fact that it even comes with the original SP shipping crates makes me wonder what actually happened with it... did somebody store it in the basement or just use it as a very large and heavy shelf ornament?
PSU is spotless on the inside (I still think the 270's look marvellous) and it's even got line selector optics. I envy the next owner of this thing already.
