Pity about the music, the band, the crowd, the direction and especially the CG (lens flare is not a substitute for artistic merit...)

Why all those (solid) tunnel effects and waves? Was it the director asking or your idea? They make the laser look less powerful.. Tunnel with beams instead of solid cones and waves made of beams instead of solid wave look way better on camera..

I did a live TV-show in the Netherlands a year ago (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep75RxgTaGc&fmt=18) with 1.5W green and absolutely needed to lower scanrate to 20K, draw special frames optimized for high visibility and it was still (in my opinion) not powerful enough. Just because the frontlighting (60kW at least) was very powerful and all effectlighting (36+ movinglights 575W and above) was directing to the camera's.

you hit the nail on the head. the chap in charge told me what shapes etc he wanted so i did as he asked.

i had to turn the power down as well when the crowd was there and as you have said there was alot of stage lighting. which isnt good for lasers

Never do what the director asks. Do what he wants instead. Remember that the director doesn't know anything about lasers.

I read a book by Douglas Trumbull that basically said the same thing about special effects :-)

i know what you mean about directors and budgets these guys only had like $500 bucks or so and it was the day before the shoot
so we brought a 700mw rgb and we couldn't use that much smoke and they had some lights that were as bright as the sun

i had forgotten all about that gig till to day so i did some investigating and found the video

Was that guy's eye patch part of the costume, or was it his effort to "not look at the laser beam with remainingeye"?

    Decent music though
