and could we chain two lasorbs to add their Vf ability?

You could simply use a blu-ray Lasorb...

OK will check tonight....feeding the Flexdrives with 5.25 vdc......figured that would be a safe point....and under 3 v at the output. It does seem to be increasing in power...more testing. I have picked up a couple of supply units from the computer guy...HP rack mount parts. 5 and 12 vdc up to 20 amps and 32 amps on the 5 volt rail. Can't beat them for free. They are small with 2 fans...3" x 12" x 8". There were 2 of them on a backplane so he gave me the card and all the sockets and plugs too.

    @ -bart-
There isn't significant hysteresis at 3V and below. Above 3V there appears to be thermally-induced hysteresis, in other words as it heats up it conducts more.

@sbk I'm not sure if the Blu-Ray LasOrb would provide sufficient protection, but it would still probably be better than nothing. The only really high Vf red diodes I have come across are over-driven open cans

That was an advice directly from Pangolin... So I think the blu-ray version would work well for high power red diodes.

About open can, what do you call overdrived? I'm running mine at 350mA (and will probably decrease a little the power by software when making shows), I hope that's not too much

I got higher powers than reported here, more than 130mW at 250mA at 15C or so (with Roithner Lens-27; with Aixiz coated glass lens around 110mW). You can read everywhere that the crucial factor for a LD is not the current but the power. I'd thus be careful not to simply crank up the current - if I'd use 300mA for mine, the power would be beyond the max 150mW the diode is rated for; even more so if the diode is cooled. And the power is determined, I guess, without any lens, so if you use a cheap lens and aim for 150mW, then the diode is likely running outside of specs.

I also found that the diode runs nicely single longitudinal mode at selected regions in the current/temperature space, see

Your diode tests were an interesting read, thanks.

Could you run wavelength vs temperature for that diode at cw?

I belive the factory sheet is for pulsed.

    Thanks, Steve
