Default Avatar Controller ? Are they cool? What do you think?

Hello I have been really thinking of picking up a Avatar Laser performer console. Can anyone tell me about them at all? Does anyone have one for sale?

Weakest point of the avatar, it has no double frame buffer, so it spends up to 30% of the time (depending on the scanrate) filling the framebuffer with points! So 30% of the time the laser is off, so you lose 30% brightness.
Besides that the os is not exactly crash free. In fact it's just a stable as mamba 2004.

Out of interest were/are Chameleon anything to do with Chamsys who make the lighting controllers/desks? The 'Cham' part of the names suggests they might be related, and the controllers themselves look very similar to the wings/desks, with same jog wheels and buttons.

Yes they are connected, both are run by the same guy. Although he is slowly retiring from laser products to concentrate on the lighting desks.

    I don't blame him, it's a bigger marketplace for a start!

If the Chameleon stuff is anything like the Chamsys stuff then it'll be great, I'm over the moon with my MagicQ

It is just as well made. He is still undertaking repairs (if he can find the parts) to some desks made over 20 years ago. IIRC he has enough parts to make another 3 PM25's and thats it, no more laser desks.

As you say, there is more market for high end DMX boards and this is better business for him.

Would he be willing to talk about image eprom formats for the PM21? I'd like to change my images.
