VMware is a lot faster, plus we've been doing this since before VirtualBox existed...

Fair enough, tbh I can't see much of a difference in speed, VB is really quick - but then having 4GB ram helps too!

We like the MIDI integration between OSX and VMware Fusion a lot. Also, Fusion lets you run without a root window, so Windows apps (like Pangolin) appear mixed with Mac apps. You can even drag files from Finder windows to Windows apps and Explorer windows and vice versa- it's really nice, especially when you're setting stuff up for a show.

Even better: the VMware restore points allow us to experiment with new hardware setups without the risk of destabilizing things (we can just rewind to a restore point and hey presto, it's as if nothing happened) and Time Machine makes sure all our show computers get backed up on a minute-by-minute basis, so when someone drops a laptop and breaks it, we can just go get a new one and restore onto it.

Really, I'd recommend the Windows-on-Mac thing to anyone using Pangolin. It's just a shame Pangolin doesn't believe there are Mac users out there doing laser stuff... hey Bill, are ya listening? ;-)

    Sorry...
I deeply apologize for word "his" I written
Sometimes I forget some basic rules of english grammar....
But it is not my fault... italian grammar uses only one possessive
adjective for He-She-It subjects: his, exactly.

    My apology once more.

I noticed that too. Sounds like a team I could root for.

Though I gotta say, if DZ *ever* gives me any more shit about the messy wiring in my old projector layout, I'm going to refer him to these pics and then tell him to stuff it!

Still, for only a couple hours - that's nice work there Heroic. Glad to see the goggles in the pic, especially considering the power level. Looks like you need to swap the jumpers on the scanner amp for the X axis though.

Out of curiosity, what did that 4U flight case go for?

Eh, the wiring's not as bad as it looks in the photos. We actually cabletied it all and then stuck it down with sticky pads. It is quite neat now.

The flight case was $150, not bad really considering

That's what I tried to tell DZ too, but he wouldn't listen!
(Though in fairness, the pics you posted were clearly ones showing the build "in process".)

Yeah... Considering a basic metal case would have cost at least as much, and then you'd need to buy a flight case for it anyway! I may need to re-think my next projector housing...

Now our good Australian friends see you in a different light Adam ....

would you do the whole team at once or one at a time

    from the Ausie Slang dictionary
Root (verb and noun) : synonym for f*ck in nearly all its senses: "I feel rooted"; "this washing machine is rooted"; "(s)he's a good root". A very useful word in fairly polite company.

Root rat : somebody who is constantly looking for sex.

its a funy old world on these international forums eh ...

    all the best ... Karl
