YES, this is ideed great news.

But i think buying Showcontrol is only an option in theory, the last thing you can, ehhh could, do.
There are only a very few people who are willing to pay over 1,000 dollars extra for that Showcontrol option. If Autoplay 5.0 is works well, i maybe can send back my Showcontrol to Laserlight.

The INI option and SDK option are possible, but hey, we are simple users, no programmers. In our country we have a say that can be translated in English as 'It can be done using your hands and feet together and at the same time.'

And another thought: Patrick Dietzel began writing Showcontrol, just because he missed extra functions in the current Autoplay. So the other way around: Showcontrol wasn't be born if Autoplay had extra options in the first place.

But i'm very happy that some things are changed in Autoplay 5.0 !!

    Great news Bill !!

That's the second time you wrote that. Is it really $1000 ? Last time I heard it was 250 or 350 Euro.

Yes, but what's wrong with people writing their own software add-ons and extensions and then making money off if it? Why should Pangolin do everything (and get all of the money)?

We're happy that people are able to extend the functionality of our system, and create entirely new tools. Lightspeed had their own tools with which they did all kinds of animations and such. They called it "Lightspeed power tools" -- a real toolbox that did everything from akima keyframe animation to particle systems!

I think it's simply impossible for any single company to do everything or explore every single possibility. Take mikoj's fireworks program. Pangolin has never written a fireworks program, but this is now the second one written to operate on the Pangolin platform (the first was written by Tim Walsh many years ago).

Peter, please contact me directly so I can send you this AutoPlay to test.

    Default Step forward

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for the change in AutoPlay v5.0.
This preload thing is really a step forward.

But it only loads the first six (or so).
I guess the limitation is the memory on the QM Card itself.

I tend to have all my shows defined in Showtime so it's unrealistic to have it preload ALL of them.
However, the option to select 6 user definable shows (Hold CTRL and select) would be nice .....

I think you can tell it "which six" you want. If, within the Edit Show dialog, you select "Preload", you can tell which ones you want to preload. After that, you use the menu to load only those shows which have requested preload (instead of trying to load all shows). After that, AutoPlay will *try* to avoid disturbing the shows you have preloaded. It will *try* to make intelligent decisions when over-writing preloaded ones in memory.

One possibile solution is to get more memory...

Its not a real big problem, but i have discovered that the laser preview window (priority settings for preview or laser output) doesn't work correctly.

If i change the setting in the reality preview window within autoplay, it does not apply and save the setting. I have to open showtime and there change the priority setting of the preview window to change/save it.

Its not a big problem for me, but mabey for the simple users a problem.

    Best reg.

BTW nice release LD5 with the renewed autoplay.

Yes i do use vista. But i dont use UAC. So permissions is not the problem.

If you disable UAC vista is just like XP.

    howto?

Click in the startmenu on the seachbar and type: "msconfig" >> press enter.
Find the option Disable User account controll or something simular with UAC in the line, on the latest tab i thought, and run the script, restart.

    Hi Cyberb0b,

You and I had an email communication about this. I just wanted to bring "the public" up to speed on what was said.

In the case of what Cyberb0b was reported, "working correctly" is in the eye of the beholder...

All of the implications of the several ways it could possibly work were discussed in the email with Cyberb0b. I think he eventually came to agreement with our approach -- which -- once again -- was made to favor use of AutoPlay within large theme parks and shopping malls. An assumption is made that the system was installed by a professional laser show company and, by the time a user is using Autoplay, the laser preview settings were already set within Showtime for proper operation.

In any event, it's easy for people to change this using the menu, and, if someone wants to create something completely new with different operation, this is easy using our current AutoPlay souce code as a template or otherwise.
