Well I'm not only a laser geek but I'm also a bluesman. Play a little blues harp and have in excess of 3000 various blues songs

Hey Frothy, amazing video!!! And as always, you know I'm a huge fan of the music you use

    A couple questions:

Do you know what kind of pump diode they use in these lasers? Probably at least 5W?

Lastly, do you know if these lasers use a linear cavity or do they use a more complex design? I'm just curious. After a successful Linear cavity 532nm build, and a semi-successful (still working on the power...) linear cavity 473nm build, I would eventually like to try 457nm. With that being said, I've priced out the components and it will probably be a while before I tackle that one. A good LBO coated for 457 is like $600 by itself .

Lovely little temporary 'toy' there, albeit an expensive one
Quite a cool looking colour, of course it'll be not the same as real life. Nice music and nice video.

I do however pity your camera.. mine had a ccd replacement for some weird reason....

I guess your next challenge is to put that much power into the laser on the sharks head!

The particular camera I use is a Sony brand handycam. It seems to take hits pretty well although if I left it in the beam it would be toast. Placed in a non diffracted beam it wouldn't last long either.

As far as the shark's head goes I'm a big fan of pulsed YAG, Er, Yb and other IR type lasers so my shark wouldn't be all that impressive as he was dispatching his enemies.

Looks like you got a high def Sony? I have the SR12E as it's very suitable for VJing. It was killed by scanned beams from at least 10-15m (no MPE considerations, just testing the laser) if that's any help. Made a 'lovely' triangle dot pattern, so was probably full white drawing a sine shape with some bright points. I was really happy after recording a 3 hour cloud sequence and noticing this...

If you could stretch pulsed yags to some q swtiched greenies I'm sure it'd be impressive Although.. the shock factor of a shark vapourising things without anyone knowing for a little while would be great. The iR hand of god... hehe.

By the way I'm glad to see you jump on board over here, read quite a few of your posts many years ago in my pointer days on lpf/wicked forums etc.

I have a ~12 watt 532nm CW coming in a few weeks so maybe when I do some filming with that I'll make it look like the beam is coming out of the sharks head. I'm having to fiber couple it but I think some stuff will need to burn in free space propagation before I add the glass.

Soulstorm I notice you are from NZ. I have a regular client there (university of otago).

12W! Now that'll be some fun.. you lucky guy! A nicely done youtube video could get some serious hits

Otago uni as a client is pretty cool, what do they get up to? I was in at Auckland uni recently and saw a poster outlining an experiment they did, using a 10kw pump diode array and made a fibre tunable laser setup. They got through deep red to yellow to green, with some reasonably bright wavelengths - I don't think they could get to blue though. It wasn't a dye laser as far as I remember. Next time I'm there I'll have a squizz and take a photo.

Would that be a "frickin" laser beam?
