    Look up William Bennett...
Funny story about this guy... He invented the Argon in 1962 I think, then in 2000 underwent an eye surgery using an Argon laser!

    Ok ill do that!! Thanks!!
Wow!!! I wonder how much they cost back then?
Thats kinda strange if you think about it, He invented them and then one was used on him....! Wow!!

Wow!! I forgot how much heat argons make!! It will heat my room up in just mins......!
Ok random ? What is the voltage coming out of its PSU?

Mines heated the whole upstairs ( Including loft ) of my house in around 15 minutes .

Also I think those tubes run at 80-90V from the PSU, and the cathode needs 2.5V - 3VAC. If you mean the argon PSU that is.

    Cool

Yeah this one cranks out some heat, in the winter its going to be nice!!
But I have found that it doesnt like start if its cooler than 68, I wouldnt say doesnt, it just takes longer.
Ok cool!! I was just wondering. Thanks!!

They don't work by ionizing the gas, they work by electrons hitting He atoms and exciting their electrons without ionization (effectively, a vibrational state). The He atoms then transfer their energy to Ne atoms, exciting their electrons into an excited state. The excited Ne atoms build up, forming a population inversion.

This is why HeNes work at high voltages and low currents, while ion lasers (which work by ripping electrons bodily off the atoms!) work at low voltages and high currents.
