If you know anyone willing to buy the parts, I'll gladly build it! Figure a build cost somewhere in the low 7-figures for the 2kW version.

O.K. , give us a rough breakdown of the costs to build

funny you should mention that...but it has already been done! Back in the 90's...that is why we are here right now, today back then...it was new and novel and state of the art now there is zero market for it because of the upstart cost. When any yahoo dj can buy a vag burner for 300.00. It dosnt pencil...as they say.

a bit o' history- My relationship with laserscope evolved due to the fact that a project of 2 years prior with a contracted physicist to build me a lamp pumped RGB failed due to his divorce which ended up in a lawsuit which when the divorce was finalized I got the equity out of his house which allowed me to approach laserscope with "an order so to speak". (and floyd of LFI was my good friend sitting on the sidelines the whole time...calmly waiting to strike the deal) keep in mind...it was a different industry back then...it was ruthless (I was honored to have Floyd as a close friend). I met Floyd for the first time when we were part of the group that formed ILDA in lake tahoe, we became friends instantly.
    (sorry for run on sentance)

I worked for YEARS quietly, in dark rooms and nasty back alleys slowly dumping my 171's because the baby was birthing and I saw (or helped) the industry change. and now...most of us are extint.

I'll have to get drunk to disclose details but it was VERY DIFFERENT then

I will be making laseralex a medal for his continued "Pursuit of Excellence"

The technology can be pushed further, but sadly to say the market wont justify the expense.

Just go get one from LLNL, they have pushed it to single cavity 350 watts or so of 532 by improving the KTP..

yep, and add a second cavity, with a larger rod and you are in the 500 watt range easly. you are only limited by the damage threshold limits of the components, and ofcourse...your budget.

scaling this technology is nothing new it has been done and there are very few obsticles. For those not in the know, the gentlemen at LLNL and LSCP worked together on the patent and I was personally trained by both of them. (pioneers of the day) A young crazy kid dosnt get the opportunity to be trained personally by legends very often. Right place at the right time. For a good time google KECK! Follow the trail and it leads back to LLNL and the good old days.

innovation is rare these days...its the SOSDD syndrom.

edit: and steve you might know I spent many years as a service tech for those guys in the pico second dye laser and ring laser labs at both sandia and LLNL during "MAD" days of "SDI". damn i feel old

Wow, some truly fantastic stuff on this thread. ! (And some dumb ass stuff..LOL)

I am beginning to love this place...

I recently bought a laserscope myself and am in the process of converting it for light show use.

Its only a single phase power supply version with air cooling of the water system but I hope it does 20 watts as I have no way of measuring it.
I am a resident lighting guy in a local night club here in england but all the lasers in there are my own work and property.
It is an expensive hobby. !!!!!

I only use this monster above the crowd as the venue has a 8 meter ceiling height and sometimes outside too !

I will get some pictures up very soon of my equipment and the venue

Well I guess all that was aimed at me.

I guess not being a established member makes me an easy target !!

FYI, I am fully trained in laser safety and have loads of laser (including YAG) experience stretching many years.

Yes perhaps I am not as experienced as some of you but hey thats why most including of us are here...to learn and to help/exchange information with others.

    Disspointed !

good job simon...just dont shoot your eyes out. Most of it was probably aimed at me, because generally speaking anyone with less experience than me with these types of lasers should not own one (just kidding of course).

In case you havent heard...laserscope use to make an entertainment laser
