Laserscope Modification Just Finished!

Would text be considered graphics? the most i would be doing with the laserscope is tunnels, circles, text some simple graphics, can i use the pinhole method for that?

Err, tunnels, as in crowd scanning? BAD plan with a Q Switched rig!

That apart, you can use the pinhole method, but it will distort the line ends if they occur while a pulse is going out. Personally, I consider laserscopes to be pure beam show fodder, use something much better behaved for text and graphics...

I think i figured out why the blanking isnt working, the QM2000 is giving me 0-5v analog signal for the blanking instead of a TTL 0v or 5v output or 2.5v whatever its suppose to be... I have blanking scanner connected to pin 3 (blanking/intensity) and im thinking its giving intensity control 0v-to-5v instead of 0v or 5v... because i can see the galvo make larger moves when a bigger image is projected, and its not suppose to do that, suppose to have a solid amplitude...

Hey Nic,

That's a great design for the retro kit can you send me two over. PM the rest.

If you only need beams, the mirror/pinhole method should be fine. If you want graphics, I recommend the retro reflector method to eliminate the blanking artefacts.

If you decide to use the retro reflector method, you can use a fixed 90 degree retro reflector with a larger or rotated mirror on the galvo, as described in Laser FX and elsewhere. If you want to use a conventional mirror, so that the blanking speed will match the X/Y speed, you need an angle-adjustable retro reflector mount slightly less than 90 degrees.

Now I am no fan of the whole CDRH thing you guys have going, to European eyes it seems like paperwork mostly for the sake of it, but getting the thing approved is the rules, and you got to follow the rules.
