Laserscope Modification Just Finished!

Hey I was wondering if this was the right place to post, I want to convert my laserscope into a pointer.

I like pointing it at planes but it's quite heavy so it's hard to manouver, especially if the plane is on it's approach, as they are lower and moving faster.

The added bonus would be I could modify my Chinese spirograph projector so I can point the laserscope pointer in it coz it's not bright enough. Do I need a variance?

If you're thinking about building a projector, you might want to start off with solid state lasers first. They're easier to work with and much more forgiving. In most cases, they're cheaper as well. (The exception being DPSS blue, which is rather pricey.)

Just use a DVD red and a Bluray for the blue, they're easy to learn the ropes with (building drivers, DAC's, aligning dichro's, etc...) while still enabling you to run the projector in full colour and do some very pretty shows. If you bust one of those, it's not going to break the bank, and something tells me you have some DVD players or burners in the spares box in the garage (or even in the trash!). Get a precision screwdriver set and pull those things!

Second, boy, am I glad I was too busy to get sucked into this with you, then get 'burnt' like the others - like I told you on the phone, cannot and WILL NOT help you UNLESS you are committed to doing it RIGHT. Welp, if you've taken your 'conversion' out and done a show with it, you've blown that. And seeing your website advertising 'spectacular laser shows' yeah, sure, ok, whatever... so here's the deal:

#1, Immediately take the class IV laser show services OFF your website until you have a Variance to perform them. If you've got one, well, show down.

#2, Immediately stop development on your KTP projector UNTIL you have a THOUROUGH understanding, not just of everything it is going to take you TO get it certified as a light show system, but WHY. And PROVE that you have stopped. How? My suggestion is you allow me to hold the KTP x-tal section (not just the x-tal - the entire mount / oven) in 'escrow' until you've been trained, and have your VarianceS. Trust me, it will be safe and sound and returned in perfect condition / installed - when appropriate.

#3, Apologize to your 'elders' here on the forum that you've abused, and maybe - just maybe, with time and proof of your 'repentance', they can serve for you as a treasure trove of not just information, but WISDOM, which you so clearly lack (in your laser endeavours).

If you do not, I personally, am going to make it my pet project to get the CDRH to your house, with Marshalls, to take that illegally modified medical laser you possess, from you - not to mention a filed warning for the illegal show you did / didn't do, whatever. I've had enough of the eBay KTP-system BS threatening MY livelyhood, for one, and since you're here in sunny SoCal, well guess what - I'm gonna be your new buddy. You wanted help - you're gonna get it. Think of it as 'Laser Boot Camp' but somewhat nicer...

In Allens defense, I did see his website before he got his Laserscope, I believe if a customer wanted one, he would contract another company to do it for him, so i don't think he is talking about his own.

That's illegal under Sale of Goods and Services legislation, as he is misrepresenting the service he provides.

(30/60w rgb is made with 171's not diodes all my lasers are lamp or ion units, and i have 2 168's in mint condition)

Hmm. Well, #1 there aren't too many Co's left in Cali WITH 171 WLs, and of those that do have them, they wouldn't be caught dead subbing to a n00b w/ no Variance - they'd never risk it, and #2, he admits to 'owning' 3 class IV lasers and advertises as "We HAVE..." in order to "...DO..." laser shows, yet has no Variance to do so? Sorry, he blew any cred as far as believing anything like 'well yes, I OWN class IVs, but don't actually DO illegal shows with them...' with Specs' fine pantsing re: the laserscope in public... And even his '168' pix show me an OEM head, not even a Certified laser source, let alone with a cert'd projector, let alone with a Var to do shows...

You begin to see the compound-problem here, yes? Just because someone scraped together a few bux and bought some lasers and has some knowledge of how to turn them on and can put up a scrappy webpage or two does NOT make them qualifed to 'DO' laser light shows in public, or anywhere else, for that matter... even if he only sticks to doing shows for friends in his garage, is that any less illegal? Or potentially dangerous, even criminal? (if he say, blinded a friend or, even his cat, and it was proved in court that he should have known better / was warned, etc..)

So, Allen - you haven't posted since the 6th - what say you? Cause I've got a bit of time on my hands these next couple weeks, and I'm dead serious - I intend to pursue getting you 'clean' one way or another. We can do this the easy way or the hard way, bud... Call me up, let's make arrangements to get that KTP disabled till you're legal - I know you've got my number...
