The part that makes a mockery of the whole situation is the fact that the crane weighs 88 tons, so the thing will exceed the bearing limits x 2 just driving on to site, but at that point it is a vehicle, not a crane.

It's not until the thing rigs for the lift and its sat on the matts will it be below safe limits.

Luckily for me its only then my ass gets placed on the line (thinks; did I allow enough moment factor for wind loading, there may be some extra blowing out of me on Monday).

If the thing doesn't disappear in to the ground I'll post the photos

this is the *exact* reason why people are getting more and more fed up with you. You ask your question(s)...

Is a crank truss or tripod a good idea? (or however it was worded. Im not directly quoting now).

You get everyone here to pretty much give you the exact same answer of "no, not a good idea at all." but then you challenge everyones answer as to why it is indeed a good idea. Or why it will work safely.

If you already have the answer, or what you think may be the answer, why are you asking for opinions? Our opinions obviously don't mean anything to you as you have made very evident in the past.

If all you have is a flat floor, you use scaffolding or a shelving system. I use them. And my lasers are 1/4 the size and weight of a laserscope. I dont know where you heard that scaffolding or a shelf system isnt used anymore. If you cant hoist the laser like that, than unfortunately you don't do the show.

You know how many shows i have had to outright turn down becasue the venue just couldnt support a laser show? Either low ceilings, multiple floors where beam height and horizontal access couldnt be controlled? I just had to turn a show away about a week ago for that exact problem. And this club had a serious budget!!! It sucks. Its a horrible feeling. But it comes with the profession.

No laserscope system (afaik) has ever been mounted to any sort of a tripod or crank up type system. In fact i can imagine the look on any inspectors face if they ever saw a system mounted at a show like that (unless it was a fiber launch). I dont think they would care if it iwas a tripod that you could land a helicopter on. I dont think the words "crank up, tripod and laserscope" are to ever be in the same sentence.

Also, any laser show that would require the powers needed by a laserscope (if you supposedly do have a 30, 40+ watt one) would be a "high end" and professional sort of some type of entertainment event. Therefore, you will be charging, in excess of $5000 for at the bare minimum. I cant think of any laser company under any circumstances billing out a gig with a laserscope for a nickel less than $5000. If my mother and father had an event i would charge them at least $5000 for a laserscope show. Lol. Just from the liability standpoint alone.
With that being said, if you showed up charging that type of money for a "professional laser show" with your 40+ watt laser and the client saw you hoisting that into the air with a crank up tripod (or similar) they would probably kick you in your teeth.

If you are charging less than ~$5000 for a laserscope show then you seriously have other problems bcause at that point you are now seriously undervaluing the profession and undervaluing our services. And that is just as bad if not worse than saying "fu*k you" to the rest of us!!!

Doh! If you'd only listen to advice from your Elders... but you just don't get it...

You mean to say, you'll NEVER, EVER, EVER use ANY OTHER Co's CERTIFIED projectors? Like, either buy OR x-rent?? Wow, I actually will (not) feel sorry for you the first time your POScope or your 168/171/277 SuperKillerIonMachinefromTheYear50BillionBillion takes a shyte on you, the am of the show - - and you CAN'T just call up your buddy, with that kickin' Certified LT-1000 box...and save the day (and your paycheck...) cause you CAN'T DO THAT LEGALLY, NOW, since you SWORE (under penalty of perjury, among other things..) on your Variance app that you will be a good boy, now, and ONLY use YOUR CERTIFIED BooBooBox... (and they ONLY approved you for doing shows with YOUR BooBooBox...)

Beginning to get the point?? You could learn SO much, very quickly, from Pat and Steve, and others, and be on your way to doing great show-work - legal and safe - by, say, oh, even April ... But you are so busy eating your own guano, that you don't even realize WHY, since you've done what you DID (and it's in pictures...) to your scope, you've got a better chance of making the next MoonShot than getting that approved, the direction you are going with it.... and NO, I'm not gonna tell you what you're doing wrong. My 'terms' for help have been clearly stated.

Hey, could you do us all a favor, and ask your Other-Self, which is it?? You DO / DID Class IV shows? Or you DON'T / DIDN'T?? It's getting hard to keep track, here...

Bzzt. It will fail, sooner or later - one 'rush job' is all it takes. Yeah, lemme re-post it for ya, this time in RED INK:

As of September 20, 1985, if you will be using a Class lllb or IV laser in light shows or displays, you must submit a variance application and receive an approved variance from FDA before a performance.

So - have you, actually DONE shows, in public, (with no Variance of your own?) Or not?

Before Class lllb or Class IV lasers are sold, used in performances, or otherwise introduced into commerce for demonstration or entertainment purposes, manufacturers must have an approved variance from FDA

So - did you, actually DO a show, in public, (with no Variance of your own?) with your POScope? (regardless if someone 'else pushed the buttons') Or not?

Laser manufacturers include people who make laser products and people who receive compensation to design, assemble, or modify a laser projector and/or light show.

What, exactly, makes it "worthwhile" for you to "participate" in a 'show' - Money? Or is it just the innocent lure of all those tight buns and Speedos? Do you actually believe that the CDRH will 'forgive and forget' if you're doing / have-done ILLEGAL shows, but for free / fun??

This means that a musical group or others
(like InternationalProDJs, for example...) are considered manufacturers if they assemble a show. . . even if the act of manufacture is simply setting up a show in a particular location or changing a general purpose laser to light show use, without adding any new laser components.

So, I guessss you were in the 'bathroom' again, during this part of 'class', eh skipper?Click image for larger version.

Oh it's help, alright - I'd MUCH rather see you, here, on 'the mat', than on the News... lemme just remind you of one of the other 'fine-details' you seem to have missed:

Anyone who operates laser light shows without an approved FDA variance or who otherwise violates the FDA laser safety standard may be subject to a court injunction
andlor civil penalties (fines up to $300,000) as provided for in Section 360C of the Radiation Control for Health and Safety Act.

... and that is their 'version' of help / 'reform' - of course, $300K is probably 'pocket change' for a SuperStar like you, right,Ta.a... sorry - right, Allen?

But then, the cool part - they TAKE YOUR ALL YOUR LASERS AWAY FOREVER!!!!! And you're on a BlackList, 'n Stuff! Cool!... but, I know, that's OK, cause you 'saw Hack3rs like, 277 times', and you'll 'cap that that muthuh@#$*%-Marshall wit' yer 9, if it's that last thing you do', right???...

Dude, the bus has left. Later, taco...

PS.. I am beginning to believe that DMills may be right - you're just 'jerking us around' (and we all know how much you like to jerk stuff...) ... I mean, how else can such clear insanity be explained?? Besides, your entire 'Gallery' looks fake (well, royalty-free stock.. just have not found that particular collection, yet...) your videos look 'staged', and - we still don't really know: DO YOU / DID YOU do ILLEGAL shows in public - or was it all just your 'Chauvet' and our imagination?? So, which is it, Allen - are you for real??

Come-on, let's see some 'photo-smackdown', man! Kick my @$$!!! - Do you have PROOF, in photos, you are ANYTHING (I mean, besides that Ricardo Montalban is your Dad.. that's sooo cool, man... you claim to be?? (Laser-show-wise... saw the 'scope on a rope' and the '168 sales-video'...) - hit it, DJ... SHOW US the "60 WATTS of RGB" and "80 WATTS of 532"... If you don't (or can't), I vote you OFF this forum... we already HAD a 'Milli-Vanilli'....it's kinda tired...

There have been "real" answers throughout this thread. Piles of them in-fact. Absurdly awesome amounts of data have come to the table to assist you with your ostensibly named quest and I am here to tell you, emphatically, that just because you don't agree with the answers provided does not make them any less valid or incorrect.

Don't continue this thread for the sole purpose of continuing the thread against some arbitrary value like post count.

    Go back and (re)read everything.

marc ! You get the ''best allen chew out award '' for this month. :d
lol- while i appreciate the award, it honestly is not meant as a chew out. I dont know why, but somewhere inside of me is telling me that allen really isnt as dense and as much of "my shit dont stink" assh*le he is portraying himself to be. i am in *NO WAY* defending him he has pissed me off beyond belief also. but something deep in me is tellin me he does want to do things right. he just wants to do it the easy way and cut every corner possible to do it.

I just really think he thinks that his way is going to be better than all of the expert opinions he has gotten so far. Why he thinks that, i have NOOOOOOO idea. but as much as i find DSL johns and pats posts hilarious, i guess i am still trying for some strangely stupid reason to convey the message to allen to shut your fu*kin mouth, listen to what youre being told, and start learning for a change. put the "i have all the right answers" atitude on the back burner and listen to the pros here (pat, john, steve...etc...etc. NOT me. i dont know a fraction of what those guys know!!)

Allen- you have a WEALTH of knowledge and expertise here that in the ages before forums, would have cost thousands upon thousands of dollars in consultation fees to receive. Why you insist on ignoring all of these guys is just beyond comprehension.
do you really think any one here (before all the arguments and negative turns) would stare you wrong and intentionally give you false information or information that would cause you harm or worse yet harm to an audience member??

You have taken every single suggestion, advice, answer to a question, solution to a problem offered to you and insisted that it is either wrong, not the right way, you have a better way or the solution given to you just doesnt make any sense. why??

I have NEVER been in an environment like this where industry professionals are so open and inviting to help amateurs like you out. i built my first laser about 5 years ago. and even then, i had to pay a company $250 just to ask them questions regarding my variance application. lol, you have gotten variance help, product report help, laser light show report help and guidance that should cost >$2500. but you ignore it all.

i want you to do me a favor...seriously...drink a few beers, or better yet smoke a joint or something, get yourself relaxed and re-read this thread from the begining post. you will see what a pin-head you have been.

take a step back allen, start over and do things PROPERLY and PROFESSIONALLY!!!!!
