    Default Insanity's Monster - 2nd Installment

Ok so after excercising extreme patience and waiting for that damned glue to dry, I got a little further...

I have built a fairly complex baseplate with a 6mm overall plate, the lasers are then mounted on a 12mm plate on top of the 6mm and the dichros sit on 10mm mounts screwed to a further 3mm strip... The whole thing then sits on rubber feet screwed through onto 25mm runners. The idea here is that when the case is sitting on the ground it is subjected to different forces to when it is hanging, so things are gonna move. The rubber feet should account for this, so hopefully it should never go out of line...

Underneath the heavily over engineered baseplate is a big fat heatsink. The 445nm and 640nm both run rather hot, so this should help get that heat away...

After lots of fiddling around, I got the beams aligned and saw white for the first time, and man it is very white...

So, here is a pic of the beam paths all mixing nicely and one of my feet...

And finally, that nice icy white beam. I am really pleased with this, as it is just white, no red outlines...

Once I can tear myself away from gauping at the lovely whiteness of the beam, I will get on with installing the electronics rather than having them strewn all over my living room floor...

    Stay tuned
