Default what to use on optics

Does anybody know what type of silicone, i should use, to hold a 12mm diffraction optic, down on a aluminum optic holder ,it has no set screw for the optic,
right now , i think its being held down by some orange colored sillicone, but i need to re-do it......
will any hi-temp clear silicone work?

    thanks!

use 2 part epoxy. DONT use anything like crazy glue or anything becasue of the fumes. not sure about silicon. i would stick with something tried and true. just my opinion.

Silicone will attack bare aluminium, I would use small spots of epoxy as Marc said.

just in the case you happen to read it on the sticker, if it is aqueous phase usually it won't deposit anything with fumes, as there is no fumes at all

What are some brand names commonly found in the states of "2 part epoxy" and that people here have used? There seem to be quite a few different types, are they all the same?
Anyone ever try that fir resin http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=250476604613 ?
Or that optical contact glue stuff Hesc_photonics sells http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=290336397705 ?

    cheers

I just dont want to make the mount "permanent", i want to be able to remove the optic if necessary.... im thinking epoxy might damage the optic, if i ever try to remove it from the mount...

You can use a heat gun and it should soften it enough to pop the optic off if need be.

    Cool

Any off-the-shelf 5-minute epoxy will work, but I've had *great* luck with JB-Quick. It dries to a grey finish so it's easy to see where the glue is, and you can cut through it with an exact-o knife if you need to remove the optic. I've used it for dichros, mirrors, and PBS cubes.
