I've worked on a couple circuits that do just that, but by the time you've got a clean waveform you've got a decent number of components involved. I am only seeking to see if, thanks to the lasorb, it would be possible to rapidly modulate the LM317 directly. Even using two LM317s per Steve's post above seems like it might have the potential to be very very simple. We'll see.
