You DO need a diode with a FAC lens for that laser. Make sure that any replacement you consider clearly states either that it has FAC or fast-axis collimation. If you refer back to the picture I posted in post #14 on the previous page you can see that an integrated FAC lens is nothing more than a piece of fiber-optic fiber glued across the face of the diode (you can see it at the top of the diode). The cylindrical cross-section of the fiber acts as a cylinder lens which collimates the fast-axis.
