I also hate driving through Illinois. Between it and Kansas, I'm not sure which one is more boring..

Regarding the LEM, I would support something like that. Sounds like a great idea.. I'll begin planning and searching for a proper venue (I've got a couple in mind).. It might not hurt to start a new thread for this as well, since it might end up being more than just a midwestern affair.

Anyone who feels like they support the idea of a Nationwide LEM in St. Louis please voice it and any suggetions or ideas here for now. If there is enough interest, I'll start a new thread..

I could probably probably get away for a bit St Louis is about 9 hours from here in Minneapolis. Would be a good time. I'll bring some cool lasers and beer!

No reason to start a new thread; this one can evolve.

My Dad used to work at one of the high end resturants down town, "Tony's", about 30 years ago. I might be able to see if they have anything available for a venue. Might be a bit high dollar though unless they are feeling generous.

Cool! I might be down for something like this. I'd probably fly as well though. This looks like a nice start to another great LEM! Nice job ElectroFreak!

My plan is to try to have everything together for an event in the spring of 2010. I would love to hear any suggestions people have about what they would like to see in terms of activities and venue.

    Venue considerations-

At least one "clean" wall or stage backdrop to use for graphics shows, with a nice long, wide room (preferably with high ceilings) to be able to run beam shows.

    VERY important -
A location where disabling the smoke alarms in the show area is allowed, or the beam shows aren't going to be much fun!

RESTRICTED access - these meets are NOT public performances; otherwise, EVERYONE would have to have varianced projectors!!

SECURITY for the gear if left overnight in the venue (a MUST for a multi-day event!!)

    Other considerations:
Plenty of AC outlets; 3-phase AC & access to running water if you plan on hosting big ion lasers; sound system appropriate to the size of the venue; off-stage areas for swap meet, demos, BS'ing, etc. that can be held simultaneously without interfering with shows.

Easy access to meals & accommodations, before, during, and after the scheduled hours of the event.

I'm sure Buffo can add more!

I looked on the St. Louis Craigslist and saw this church for rent:

That would be pretty cool but who knows if it would be available in the Spring.

Thanks! I checked that link mikkojay, and the only issue I would see is that it is in a fairly remote area.. I'd like to try to find something a little more towards the city.

Stuka, thanks for your input. I've added everything there to the list of venue requirements (it pretty much IS the list of venue requirements..). I've got a couple ideas, but we'll see if they meet all the points in your post.
