My thoughts are that people taking laser pointers into clubs, raves and festivals could harm our industry. The Belgium incident makes this pretty clear... Some idiot with a high power pointer harms somebody else and the show producer instantly gets investigated, which is only to be expected...

There is no need to have a pointer in a club, the lasershow is already there and run by people who understand what they are doing...

I think the simple answer is to ban pointers from public events. People get searched at the door for weapons and drugs, so why not include pointers? The onus should be on the promoter to enforce this ban... All future events that I am involved with, I will be asking the promoter to stop them coming through the doors.

I have seen people pointing high power pointers right in the DJ's faces trying to highlight them. This is irresponsible behaviour, but if the pointer had been disallowed from the venue in the first place it could not have happened...

Insanity is not so crazy after all. Well put mate. Safety concerns aside, rouge laser's detract from the show.

I agree with this 100%... Insanity
Laser Pointers should not be allowed in Public places period.....
that should solve the Belgium type problems...
And High Powered Laser pointers could be registered...
    like they do with guns..
Well... I guess some guns are still illegal... (get my drift)...
But the criminals that use them eventually get caught... (I hope)

I use Laser Pointers and Labbies in my company...
They are tools... and I don't take them out of the shop...
and I don't invite the public to my shop..

Why should I be penalized... for the actions of some morons....

Why not catch and punish the "criminals" that abuse their lasers
instead... of saying "lets ban all laser pointers"

The vast majority of large events already search for pointers, at least here they do. That would be a simple and practical solution to many of the pointer related problems..

In this event everyone was searched for weapons, drugs and other stuff like deodorant and pointers (happens every event from ID&T).

But pointers are so small they can easily be hidden, and with 90.000 people to check you cannot do a complete strip search on every person.

Don't they have security to throw them out when they start flashing them around? It's not like it's hard to see who's doing it. Hell, they've practically got an arrow drawn to themselves every time they turn it on. It's not like trying to catch someone smoking a joint. If people use a laser pointer at a concert here they get spoken to first, and then ejected if they continue using it.

The person with the white T-shirt, standing 231 people from the left and 67 people from the stage is carrying a pointer. You go and catch him...

this is near to impossible with 20.000 people @ one stage.

Deodorant = bodyspray. You can use it as a weapon by spraying into someones eyes.
EVERYTHING that possibly could harm someone else is taken from you during the security check

Question is for those who defend high powered pointers, what are they needed for?

Do we have a shortage of pins so they're needed to pop balloons?

Do we have a shortage of scissors they're needed to cut tape?

I mean what is their honest practical use?

The only use I know of is shining them around at people and objects and burning things. I'm sure there are other ways to have just as much fun.
