    Default Review of LPM-P2 (Laser-Wave)

    Hi All,

Since UKLEM 5 i am the proud owner of a LPM-P2 , a Laser-wave Laser Power Meter with a maximum of 2W measurement, resolution of 1mW and very easy operation.

The Box contains 4 items, from top left corner clockwise, you see the measurement head, the stand to put the head on, cable to connect head to device and the powermeter itself.

Here you see the device, very easy to operate, just use the cable to connect the thermopile head, power on, zero it , shine device on laserhead.
On the picture above a cover is still on the head to protect against dust and damage.

As i got a very nice package from Phritzler also on Saturday i decided to use that one instead of the crappy Laserworld Green 250E, i know it's underpowered and i had an urge to see something that was supposed to output MORE than it was specified for ;-) This Lasever Green LSR532 was rated for 300mW. So i connected it, zero'd the meter and turned it on.
    The result:

It started at 395mW so i was happy, then it rose to 425 and it shortly hit:

Woooaaaah ! 439mW ? Cool.... after a while it dropped again and it stabilized around 421mW
Not bad for a 300mW green...Thanks Phritzler, excellent stuff !

After testing the green, i decided it was time to test the red.
Since i professionally killed both LOC's i bought from DDL by some "diode-virgin" stupidness, i decided to test the nice laserpointer i won (actually got from Rob to be honest) that was donated to the raffle by Andy i think.
A very nice clean laserpointer, shiny as hell, very goodlooking.
But what about the power ? Well..... check out this pic:

OMG ! 280 mW ! Nice one ! It also has the LOC (see there are 2 kinds of people on this world, people that CAN harvest an LOC and people that don't ). Well built design, i can really recommend these laserpointers. Thanks Andy (i think it was you right ?)

Well you think, ok, it works. That's most important.
But i want to help out other people in NL (that don't have a meter) as well, so i want to transport it, without having to put it in the box all the time.
So i wanted to make a briefcase to transport it in. I couldn't find the anti static foam at work where they pack those HP servers in. Would be brilliant, but someone just cleaned out the storage room grr.... always like that, when you need it, someone tossed it. Anyway, since it was Sunday and i had some spare time, i decided to use cardboard ? Hell why not, had boxes plenty around, so i decided to think in 3D.

I cut out the exact shape of all the items, layer by layer, so i was even able to make the round form of the thermopile head.

In the end, i ended up with 14 layers of cardboard.
Then i glued them up, one by one, starting from the bottom:

In pic above you can see i even cut out the stand of the meter which can make the meter stand at a tilted angle. Also mind the nice round shape of the thermopile head place and the round place to put the stand
Yup, a true 3D cardboard artist at work ;-) More layers followed (and another tube of glue ):

I made the holes at the top wider to take out the equipment.
Finally with all the stuff in:

Then i made a cardboard cover, with a square glued to it exactly fitting in the thermopile compartment, to protect it all around with cardboard.
I also needed to cut out a small rectangle to fit the stand:

Now i only need to tidy it up a bit, i am afraid of painting the cardboard (i am scared that it will smear on my nice meter....)
But i was thinking about asking Rob the laserwave logo, print it out on a A3 and glue it on top with the text lasermeter or LW-P2 on it or something.

The case is a nice PVC box made by Wez in Switzerland.

Well that concludes my roundup of the superduper Lasermeter that Rob was so kind to sell to me. Also the green that Phritzler sold me passed by in this review and my own mad cardboard cutting skillz

Hope you enjoyed reading my review, if not sorry i wasted your time.
If you did enjoy, i am happy. Any questions ? Please ask ! Suggestions ? Tell me.

Man it's EXCELLENT ! it works very well and i use it to test stuff like dichro's, pbs and now i use it to test the meter as well. It shines very very far.
Rob gave it to me after he found out i didn't win a prize, again shows his kindness, i really appreciated it.

    Thumbs up

Buy some foam and use a craft knife to cut out the shapes instead of cardboard.
    Much more professional.

True. I will look for some foam at work and try to fabricate something from that.
But where would i find a piece of anti static foam in one piece of 26x36x9 cm anyway ?
I will keep my eyes open, but until then, this will suffice and is better than putting it in the bag, then in the box ;-)
But what you thought of the review ;-)

Harvest the LOC from the laserpointer, and give it a better live inside your projector

    Nice review Dimitri
From what you showed me at the meet, the LPM looks top notch and a very solid unit.

P.S. That's some good cardboard work going on there
