Yes PASS is much more expensive (although quite better, and especially approved by the higher instances), that's why I've interest into this USB safety.

And yes too, uP can handle critical applications, when correctly programmed, and embedded in a strict REAL TIME environnement. This is something we don't know about this safety, but I think I can make confidence on this, as it seems well designed...

I certainly will buy 2 of them. You got my final words before the end of the week!

Please have a read thru this thread.. I seriously doubt any of these uc based scanner safety boards have been validated properly.

Well, with that in mind shouldn't we be validating the first shackle in the chain (the galvos) first?
Isn't that what has the highest chance to cause a malfunction in the first place? It's mechanical, moves at blistering speeds, wears and tears.
The thought seems to be that a validated scanfail will be the shackle that will make the chain unbreakable.

I mean, statistically what poses a greater danger, the absence of scan fails in projectors, or the use of cheap galvos ?

What does a more ethical audience scan; a projector with a validated pass system and "golden chopsticks 50k scanner" or a 6800 projector with gentos device?

I think the market should be open to all kinds of safety devices, and everybody should purchase the product that gives them 'a warm feeling' inside, as long as they buy one. And within the boundaries of their legal system people should be free to do their own risk-assessment.

Just to bump this from the grave, I've just taken delivery of 5 of Guido's v2.1 boards, which I'll be fitting alongside DZ's new breakout boards in the coming week or 2. I'll try and give some feedback on how I find them.

You are using Bonetti's defense against me, ah?

I thought it fitting, considering the rocky terrain.
