Oh man, I was reading through this post and was excited to see the little Daco solenoid, something that I really need! Then I saw the price... Geez, any luck Adam?

I did an ebay search for one and was surprised to see that a BD10A coil popped up under Daco: http://cgi.ebay.com/Daco-Neon-Equipm...d=p3286.c0.m14

These things are probably nice for shutters, but I was thinking more for popping in scan-thru effects. I could easily fit two of these under my scan head for lumia/diffraction effects.

    It's all your fault.

How many did you buy? Wanna part with any? The more I think about it and with thier small size, I could probably fit 4 around my scan head.

I only got one; I didn't think they would be "certifiable"... or "Variencable"... They feel flimsy, and once I got mine I didn't think it could be worth much more than it cost me. $89 kinda shocks me.

I was too busy today to call them nor did they call me back. I'm gonna call and talk to them tomorrow and post my findings here.

That's pretty weird you ran into a BD10A with that search. Good price too! I'm sure that thing will go nuts with bids. Although, you can usually find them for $20 used at local hamfests. That's where I got mine.

Same here. They are very nice but $89 is insane!

When I talked with Daco they informed me that many clients use them for medical laser shutters. They are not exactly "flimsy". Due to the size of the solenoid, they have to make the flag thin and lite. However, they do have a redundant flag surface to stop a beam if it were to make it through the first flag barrier. I imagine these shutters would be fine with a 10W beam hitting them before heating of the solenoid body would become a concern. They are also made to handle extreme temperatures and humidity (see "Mil Spec") to keep them from sticking. With ruby bearings and a 2 million + actuation life, they really are made for reliability and duty..... But for what price!

    I'll know more tomorrow.

If anyone wants to put together a group buy at these prices, let me know. I'd be glad to help but I'm out.
