    Default Upgrade RGBB underway

    Hi,

Just thought you might like to see progress to date on the RGBB update.

    It now has an extra blue at 445 / 550mw and a 640 red @ 1.2w.

Unfortunately the red took up smoking at a very young age and so is awaiting further instructions from the doctor. Looks like a MOSFET took a dive on the TEC H bridge. Luckily the L diodes seem OK.

Can't show you any nice laser pix yet until that's up and running but it sure looks good on static runs so far (pre smoking).
The only impediment now is I have to remember the test beam (spot) will and does catch fire to things to my horror I turned around whilst looking at the RGBB and hello the smoke was billowing up the screen at about five meters away.... damn !!

In case your wondering why I have put the pix of the little flip up cardboard box ?? its worth its weight in gold. It helps protect the mirrors by flipping it down. It also acts as a little "screen" when aligning dichro's.. I'm still gun shy from when my screwdriver found its way onto my DT40 mirror way back. I would hate to do that to my CT mirrors.

I love the 60k driver amps take a look at those big fat driver semiconductors !!

More pix to follow when the red is out of hospital..

    Cheers

WOW! That is beautiful! Definitely need some beam shots. I can't wait till I can afford to get me a set of those 6215 galvos with the mega amps. Those are sweet.

did you make that stacked red module? that's really, really sexy. Can't wait to see pics of that thing alone.

    Same here!

Plus, if you were willing to divulge such secrets, it would be great to find out what optics are used - and where to acquire them!!

    Awesome build, Ray!!

    Hello!
The red is a kvant module - the "new" 1.2W model with 8 diodes.
They also only use the same technique.

    Hi,

Yep the red is a Kvant module.... pretty impressive bit of engineering !!
That's why I put the pix in, I had to open it in case something was shorted inside while I looked for why it was smoking. The issue appears to be in the driver... MOSFET I think.

The 445 is the Arctos unit.

    The other two are CNI.

    Cheers

    Very Nice!

I just love pictures of laser guts
Is the round optic in the Kvant (upper right) a waveplate?

    Hello!
    Yes - it is a Lambda/2 waveplate.
