Thumbs up AixiZ 50 mw module

AixiZ 50 mw 532 nm module
    The Specs
    Output Power: 50 mW
    Wavelength: 532 nm
    Spot Mode TEM00
Operating Voltage 90 -230 volt ac
Operating Current Diode current 350 mA
Storage Temp -40 degree to 80 degree Celsius
    Case Material Aluminium
    Beam Divergence < 1.2 mrad
Beam Diameter at Aperture 2.3 mm
    Life: About 5000 hrs
    Operating temp: 10-50 degrees C
    Warm up time: 15 min

    First impressions. (Laser head)
First off in my opinion I love this laser head.
I’ve owned and repaired several of these and there great.
The laser head provides enough cooling for the diode and KTP assembly.
The C-mount diode is mounted on a copper plug that slides into the back of the module.
And the entire head has several mounting holes on the bottom side.
According the the data sheet this module has fixed focus but this is not the case.
Focus can be adjusted to infinity by turning the front lens of the module.
Optionally a fan can be used to provide more cooling to the module in harsh conditions.
Beam specs seem to be around 1.2 mrad
And the beam diameter is 2.3 mm at the aperture
Sadly no ir filter was fitted in this head.
But i dont consider this as a big negative

    First impressions. (Driver)
The Driver accepts any voltage between 90 and 240 volts
The current for this specific diode was set at 355 mA.
The blanking input can handle ttl input only up to 30khz.
Also it has a soft start feature.
So don’t be worried when your laser does not turn on immediately.
Beam quality is great no distortions or reflections.
Focus can be changed by turning the lens on the front of the module.
    Now for the output power
The module is rated as 50 mw 532 nm
My first measurement just after power on peaked at 82 mw. 8-)
After 15 minutes I took a other measurement this one came in at 92 mw
After 1 hour I took a other measurement at this point the module was about 28 degrees.
And was doing about 101 mw so that’s a free 50 mw that’s awesome
All power readings where done using a coherent lasercheck set to 532nm
and using a external ir filter

Overall this module seems to perform very well.
Its output is stable and free of distortions and reflections.
No modehopping was seen during the testing period.
Ive seen several of these modules and most of them would do a lot more then 50 mw
The entire module costs 175 dollars.
But Aixiz also has some used modules available for 65 dollars
So the price is also very reasonable
Shipping to Europe took about 1 week
So overall I would recommend this module to anyone
Who wants to build a laser projector on a budget.
Also the support and customer service by Aixiz is great.
Chuck is always glad to help with any problems or questions.
And will always do his best to provide the best service to his customers.
Of course this is only mend as my personal opinion and is based on previous contact with him
    Positive points.
    1. It’s easy to mount.
    2. it’s not to big but provides more then enough cooling for the diode
    3. And it’s easy to replace the diode in case it ever dies
    Negative point (only one)
    1. No ir filter was fitted

Nice write up - I just got one and havent had time to fire her up.

On a very minor note - I would add the other negative is that they do not supply the mating connector for the AC in. This is a very inexpensive part, which is difficult part to find in quantities of one. Supplying this connector, would allow the user to fire it up, straight from the shipping box in 5 minutes or less. Mine still sits in the box, because I cant take the time to find the right connector. Make peoples lives easy, not difficult. Sure I could use alligator clips, but come on a connector & pins couldnt cost them more than .50 but makes my life more difficult.

    Hello,

Nice review ! One question: this module seems very similar to the DX35 green module ( which has a FAT beam ), does this also have a fairly thick beam when focused to infinity ?

When i bought the second one i got a connector.
I found another in an old computer PSU.

The laser look`s very similar to the one`s that are used in the Seven Star`s Big Dipper RGB System

Does this laser have a blanking Connection
