Fat - yes, but a beautifull blood red colour.

I just need some table tennis bat sized mirrors for my galvos so I can fit 2 of these suckers on there.

Though I'm now considering taking them out, sticking one in each of my RGYs and fitting a 1.2W 640 in my RGB

I have 300mW of 650 in mine.. the beam definitely doesn't fit completely on the mirrors, but it is close enough for my taste. The fat beam isn't noticeable when the beam is flying around rapidly, especially when there are other colors involved. 650nm systems are cost-effective, and it really is a pure crimson red with no orange to it. Looks great in patterns that alternate between red and white.

The new 640nm systems with circular beams are pretty incredible, though.. if a bit expensive.

i havent actually measured it, but i would safely assume 5mm. it is more of a "square-ish" beam.

I'd imagine 5mmx4mm would be about right. Here's a pic taken by FrothyChimp of the expanded output from a 650nm red multimode laser which shows the beam profile in detail:

I think that red would fit perfect in a RGB scanner..

to the human eye, how would 1 watt of 650 compare to 300mw of 635nm in brightness

i would say 1W of 650 looks about the same as 500/635. so, compared to 300/635 it will be (IMO) noticeably brighter.

i dont know if those numbers work out in chroma or on charts or in mathematical spreadsheets, lol...i just know i have seen side by side a 1w/650 and a 500/635 and they were damn near identical. so my common sense is telling me that compared to 300/635 it *will* appear brighter.
