and both need tubes (and probably optics as well)

crazy thing is...if you went and bought a perfectly brand new PT white light and paid around $7500.00...and the very next day went to sell it...you would be lucky to get $1500.00 for it...cant explain it but it is what I see. You have to buy it to keep it and love it and use it and give it a hug and kiss before bed each night.

I was chatting with Clandestiny the other night, and we were both lamenting on the sad, sad practice of collecting old (and obsolete) ion gear just because it's TOO CHEAP TO PASS UP... He admitted that he's got more spare ion tubes than he can possibly use in his life, and yet for a while he was still buying stuff. He's only recently been able to put the brakes on. But the rest of us are still afflicted with that "capture them all" mentality. Sigh...

tru that... I dont know if you have heard the story but way back when...i had so many dead small frames and dead large frame lasers, we pulled the magnets out and used them for ballast in my friends sailboat he was rebuilding.

I also know of an artificial reef created when someone dropped them off a bridge just to see how high you could make a splash . OBTW about 20 feet is the record

Just as some incentive for you to get yours running....

Nothing looks quite like an all-glass spectra physics laser running...

congrats on the laser... You will be IN LOVE once you find a PT for it!

I have a total of three 164/165/168's... but only one works! I actually have four more I think... but they are with dsli_john right now

for those curious...take a close look at that color around the cathode and memorize it...it is classic perfect gas color with no signs of contamination...perfect that is a great laser there jason

That picture reminds me of why I love ion lasers...

Laser (the acronym derived from Light Amplification by Stimulated Emissions of Radiation) is a spectacular manifestation of this process. It is a source which emits a kind of light of unrivaled purity and intensity not found in any of the previously known sources of radiation. - Lasers & Non-Linear Optics, B.B. Laud.

    Oh wow!! Thats nice!!
Maybe one day Ill get one like that!
    Very nice!!!

Ok I have a Oudin coil on the way (Thanks Mixedgas for helping me with that!)
So Ill give that tube one more shot with that, then Im calling it dead.
Ok, now before anyone jumps on me,Im the kind of person who likes to tinker with things, and well if its dead its dead.. so I was thinking about messing with it and pulling a vacuum on the tube and adding fresh argon gas to it. But my only thing would be if there is any wonderful toxic dust inside
