Default Best Beam Specs for 1watt of red

I need MORE PoWeR for my projector, I now have 500mW 532nm, 200mW 473nm, and 450mW of 650nm,, and that red just isn't enough...

So now I would like a nice tight red.... I was just looking at a CNI model MRL-N-660/1000mW this looks to have a real nice beam spec..... But I wonder how much it will cost???

are there any other 1watts with good beam specs? and not of a 5x8mm

I would get one of the Laserwave 640nm units.

I know Marc is selling a 1W 650 right now for $1000 (only one available) and the beam is still pretty large.

Any 650-660nm diode-based system at that power level will be multimode, and consequently have rather lousy beam specs. There are new 640nm systems with decent beam specs (round, flat-top profile.. not true TEM00, though).. they are considerably more expensive than 650 or 660nm.

On the system you referenced in the first post, an m2 value of <2.5 signifies a somewhat low beam quality, but it is better than most red diode systems..

Usually I trust CNIs specs, but those seem a bit too good for 660nm in my opinion. Perhaps they have started applying the same optical techniques that they are using for their 640nm systems in all their red systems now.

EDIT - Just realized that the system you linked to is DPSS.. I would imagine that the 640nm systems from laserwave or CNI would be more cost-effective.

I can vouch for the Laserwave 640nm reds... Very nice indeedy

I can too, the 224mW unit I tested was great! Though the wavelength was actually 648nm, it is still damn good for the beam specs.

I have a kvant 600mw and a laserwave 500mw that does almost 690 after warm up. I can say anything about the reds from laserwave but i can say the kvant is quite good. Important also is their service. If you choose for kvant you defenitive buy a quality product. But in a fairytale everything is great so their are some thing they could do better. The beams are actually 4 and then joined together.I rather have the 4 combined with dichro,s or another way inside the module. They come together after a few meters and you dont notice it anymore. The colour though is awesome. Laserwave is catching up but the 900mw is unbelieeveble big
Prices are quite competitive i must say. Medialas has also some really good quality ones only they are sometimes a little bit to busy with their own customers and the response is late or even none to questions about their products. If you buy something to match i would go for a 600mw from kvant. The length of the module is exactly the same size as your laserwave. Only downside from the kvant is their driver but thats just a mather of taste

dont buy the 660nm from cni. To match your laserwave you need much more power in that wavelength then 1000mw. Try chroma and you will see your better of buying something in the 640nm wavelength. to match the green you need 900mw of red 640nm to get white but to match your blue you only need 400mw of red 640nm but you have to dial back the green to get white. I would go for the long run and try to match the green and ad some more blue later. 600mw or 900mw 640nm would be your best choice.
