Default OPLS laser keeps turning off and on!

    Hi,
Does anybody on here know, why my Coherent OPLS laser, would be turning on and off?
It turns on for about 1 minute, then shuts off for 5 minutes.
when its on... its at full power, but it is cycling on and off every few minutes......
    any suggestions??

    Thanks,
    carlos

Depends on the driver really. What make is the driver?

Yes, this is purely a problem with the driver, as the laser cannot do this on it's own. I would assume some part of the system is overheating, or failing to heat and is causing the driver to go into a fault situation where it turns off the laser until it can resolve the temp problem.

More information into what driver and temperature controllers you are using will be needed.

I model number, part number, or picture would help, just enermax driver is not specific enough.

    Enermax makes PSU's, not drivers?

Yes your right Jeroen, its a coherent laser, Enermax power supply, and i think (looks like), a Kvant driver board.
Whats happening is, laser turns on for around 1 minute, then turns off for around 3 minutes. When the laser shuts down, there are a couple of red led lights, and a beeping noise coming from the driver board....

Have you tired contacting Kvant's technical department?

I would have thought eroor codes would be driver specific so they'd be the people with the correct error code knowledge:

Indeed, there are quite some situations where the laser will be shut off:

    - TEC problem: There are 3 TECs that will be checked for temperature, if one failes laser will not lase
    - Constant Power Loop is not constant (light sensor checks output power)

Because you have the laser running for about a minute, it should definately be a TEC problem.

Contact KVANT if it is a KVANT driver or system (Coherent doesn't support the OPSLs to end users / companies, they are integrated, sold and supported by system integrators like KVANT).
