Default Optics Bed to Case Mounting Question

Do I need to insulate the aluminum optics plate from the case? I have been reading about grounding problems and I think I remember Steve saying something about insulating the optics/electronics from the case/power supply ground.

If so how is it done?

Some home made diodes need isolating from case and baseplate. But the case has safety ground bonded to it, so you float the home maded red or violet diodes on plastic.
