Just FYI, even if you post a video, your book, your sheet music, whatever falls under copyright laws on a public forum you do not lose your copyright. When you post to youtube, you allow youtube and only youtube to display your work by your permission. If the video is ripped and reposted it is in violation of copyright laws (US anyway but they are pretty much standardized worldwide). You can force them to remove the video from youtube and their website if it's posted there. A cease and desist letter should do it. If not a lawsuit they cannot win will. You might have a case to claim your portion of any profits they made due to display of the video plus any damages and potentially punitive damages.

Class 2 or 1mW is the legal limit to sell a laser pointer to a consumer here in the UK. It was bought about after the spate of idiots shining pointers at buses, trains, and police officers back in the 90’s.

Earlier this year HSE took steps to have Amazon and eBay stop allowing the sale of high power laser pointers. How effective that was I don’t know, as there are dozens of ways to sell these devices.

But if nothing else, these products are illegal to sell and use across the whole of Europe, because they do not have the necessary engineering features required of a Class 3B laser product; if it has a ‘CE’ mark on it, it will be invalid, for without the keyswitch, interlock provision, indicator, etc, etc. it’s not compliant with 60825-1, the Laser Product Safety Standard. And it’s a ‘CE’ requirement that Laser Products must comply to this Laser Product Safety Standard.

These things do occasionally get impounded by customs, but usually it’s only the tip of the iceberg, with there being so many ways of obtaining these.

Unfortunately these irritating pointers and their users are probably here with us to stay, for there will always be an idiot wanting to sell them to idiots that want to buy them.

I'm rather pissed that it was used in this maner, but I don't see where we have any legal right to tell them to remove it. (It was posted publically, after all.) More to the point, however, I'm pissed that they would show video of someone shining a pointer at a *real* helicopter and use this as a marketing device. It boggles the mind...

I never inteded for the video footage to be used in this manner. It has obviously caused trouble. Should I pull my my Youtube video?

I'm okay with it if anyone wants me to.

This is my original video for anyone who is interested... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dzFe32Omy44
