    Default Shutter circuit

    Hello all,
This last summer, Inge from Lasertech (www.lasertech.no) asked me if I'd test a circuit board for him, this being basically the same thing as you have here. He had the main circuit designed and had a basic layout drawn up with the pad2pad software. He wanted me to check out the design, test it, and make any necessary changes. He insisted that it was a good idea and wanted me to get on it as fast as possible, but I was in a different mode and didn't get on this quick enough. I had the board started, but before I had it done he emailed me telling me that we were too late because someone else had already put a shutter circuit on this forum. So no, we are not too late, I cannot let his idea just die, it would not be fair to him. So I have to apologize to Inge for my delay in getting this going for him and also to DZ for coming up with this shutter circuit now, after he has put his circuit on the forum.
I'm not sure of what to do here exactly. I'm kind of a middleman working for Inge, so I'll probably let him figure out how to handle this. I was originally planning on distributing this shutter circuit for him here in the US since he is in Norway.
I'm posting the picture of the prototype board, handwired and tested (with the help of Homer). This circuit works fine with my AlphaliteXC Pro board and also the RIYA Multibus system. The rotary solenoid I'm testing this with uses 12 volts, the relay that controls it uses 5 volts. Inge sent me several of these from Norway for testing. The board has a switch for 5 or 12 volt solenoids, and since the printed circuit board is not drawn up yet, I can redesign it, add the capability of running higher voltage solenoids if that would help, I really don't know what is needed. I like leds for an easy visual check of the board, so there is an led for input power, the 5 volt regulator output, the 12 volt regulator output, and the TTL input signal. Another led lights up if the input signal is wired backwards. This board has, at the moment, an RCA jack for the shutter signal input, and a terminal block for the solenoid output. It also has a standard 5.5mm power jack for use with basically any wall adapter with enough voltage for the main solenoid- 5, 12, 24 volts DC or AC.
Sorry, this is the only picture I have at the moment.

    Dear Stuka,
I was quite taken back with your response, but after going over this page several times, I finally figured out what you are talking about. You are absolutely right, I do apologize for jumping in at the wrong place.

    Darn right.

Thanks DZ, saves the trouble here. At that price one can't go wrong, please put me down for 2 boards.

Hi Rick, first of all, welcome to PL! I hope these guys haven't scared ya off!

I'm not upset in the least by you posting here. In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, in fact, I highly encourage it. It helps drive new, innovative products while keeping prices down. I absolutely hope you decide to produce your shutter driver, there will be people who will prefer the features you have over the features I have, and vice versa. It ultimately becomes a winning situation for the other folks on PL, they'll have a choice of which driver suits their needs, nothing wrong with that in my book.

As a side note, my mini-drivers should be available before the end of the month, there are a few variables, but it should be very soon.

    Thanks!

    DZ,
Thankyou for the kind reply. Very much appreciated. Scared off- almost. I haven't been on a forum for years, absolutely no forum savvy here. I followed an email link directly to your message. I thought I was 'in photonlexicon', the big room where everybody chats about all kinds of laser things. And since your circuit was the exact same thing I was working on for a friend, I thought I should explain it a bit. Damn, I hate it when I start off this bad, but at least I got a pretty good nickname out of it.

    Rick -

It looks like I may have reponded a bit too hastily!!

Unfortunately, in the past we have had folks who were basically spammers that just jumped in to take undue advantage of what some of the members had to offer.

You appear NOT to be one of those, so apologies for the "cool" welcome, and welcome to the forum!

    BTW -
Pretty sure the "Hijack" nickname doesn't need to be used by you...

Well you guys are definitely all right. Stuka, your explanation was right on, I had to admire it. You actually got all that information across in about 2 sentences. It took me 2 days to figure it out. Besides, I really do kind of like the nickname, and at least it would be easy for you guys to remember who I am. Thanks again and good luck with the business DZ. I hate to ask this, but is there a certain group here I should be in or join?
