Angry 115 pilots being dazzled by laser beam this year! new laws in Norway!

After more than 100 reports from pilots flying in Norway, and after more than 115 accidents with airplanes being hitted by an laser pointer.
They now demand a NEW LAW that only allow laser pointers less than: 1mW is allowed in public.
And every other laser pointers more than that must have license to be used !!

You can read from this site:

Translated from Norwegian to English in google !

quote: "The new regulation is expected to come into force on 1 July next year. "

Laser pointers over 1mW are illegal here in AU already. Wouldn't be suprised if the rest of the world followed that too ...

    Lightbulb

I would have no problem getting a license if I had a high power handheld; and wanted to take it in public. Technically I have to get one for the projector if I want to use it in public... I see no real difference. Might be easier to get one for the handheld as long as it comes with everything the FDA wants on it.

It sucks there re so many dumbasses out there that make this type of thing necessary.

I completely agree on both points.

In fact,,, How about if we as a community help create the law and sign a petition to get it passed??? That way the lawmakers who inevitably go after this concern in the US (it's gonna happen) don't make laws harder in the laser display industry. What do you guys think? I bet PL as a group could come up with a bill to end morons getting a hold of pointers. Now, I'm not one for MORE laws but I think this would be a good one that would offer more protection for us and the laser display industry.

LPF is gonna hate me for this one, but I agree.

Although I don't live in the US, I too think laser POINTER laws should be much tighter.

Dealextreme was the #1 source of laser pointers, but now they have stopped shipping to the US. Now there are companies like o-like etc that do ship these pointers. If we can somehow get websites to stop shipping to the US (Paypal crackdown maybe?), I think many problems would go away, as someone shining a laser at a plane isn't going to go and buy a laser for over $1000 from wickedlasers etc.

That doesn't help PL or mature LPF members though. Stopping folks from being able to get the parts they need is not the issue. Making it easy/legal for Joe Shmoe to get the parts/pointers is.
