i think it would be very possibly to build some computer controlled hardware to scoot gratings/wheels/disks/whatever in and out of beam paths by using cheap little servos and controllers.
spending some time with karl's (laserwizardry) beam table has been really inspiring and makes me eager to start experimenting.
here's a cheap servo controller with a ton of capacity (32 channels) http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.as...&CategoryID=52 . it's controlled by blasting commands into its serial port so it should be really trivial to sequence commands with a computer or control with a knob box. here's the manual: http://www.lynxmotion.com/images/html/build137.htm
there's enough capacity there to also use servos for your beam steering actuators.
anyone have a cheap slab of tapped breadboard they want to sell me?![]()
