i think it would be very possibly to build some computer controlled hardware to scoot gratings/wheels/disks/whatever in and out of beam paths by using cheap little servos and controllers.

spending some time with karl's (laserwizardry) beam table has been really inspiring and makes me eager to start experimenting.

here's a cheap servo controller with a ton of capacity (32 channels) http://www.lynxmotion.com/Product.as...&CategoryID=52 . it's controlled by blasting commands into its serial port so it should be really trivial to sequence commands with a computer or control with a knob box. here's the manual: http://www.lynxmotion.com/images/html/build137.htm

there's enough capacity there to also use servos for your beam steering actuators.

anyone have a cheap slab of tapped breadboard they want to sell me?
suppose you're thinkin' about a plate o' shrimp. Suddenly someone'll say, like, plate, or shrimp, or plate o' shrimp out of the blue, no explanation. No point in lookin' for one, either. It's all part of a cosmic unconciousness.

    Default Apperature mount standard?

Is there any sort of standard way that lumia wheels and other effects should attach to the front of a projector?

I've been thinking it would really handy to have a way to mount different things over the apperature. Things like:

    • Adjustable partial shutter for vertical (or maybe even horizontal) scan block
    • A 45 degree mirror for projecting up instead of out
    • Lumia wheel
    • Diffraction grating
    • Other effects...

Only the one still. Trying to figure out how to add more, I have a few ideas, but I doubt I'll have them done in time for FLEM. The servo is running automated via DMX.

    DUDE - that rocks!!!

    What grating are you using?
    That's a GREAT combination for scan-thru effects!!!!

I *think* that one came from a cheap pair of laser glasses. I just cut out the lens and glued it to the arm of the servo, how simple is that?! I really want about 4 of these servos running, I have other effects I'm dying to put on here. A fresnel is one, that really makes a neat effect.

There is the ISP effects standard. ILDA STANDARD PROJECTOR, but when you read how its supposed to handle wheels etc, you'll cringe.. Very much robotic..

DZ, check this out. 10 bit rotory precision for hobby servos.

Might be a way to add multiple gratings and a way to keep track of the position.

That looks like a high rpm dicro wheel for a single chip dlp projector.
In other words it will not work well for what we want to do.
