    Default Lenses for knife edging

I've read on the forums recently that people prefer lenses with a larger focal length for colimating diodes before knife edging the beams.

    I ask myself ... why?
Is it just to have bigger beams and make it easier to make them overlap a bit?

I'm very interested in your views

    hi,

I'd prefer two small eliptical beams for a squareish result at the end than bigger more circular beams for some better overlap, ending in a bigger elliptical combined beam (if you follow my thought)
