    Default Pango/Winamp AVS Visualization question?

OK, I may be totaly barking up the wrong tree here but there is some parts here that I just can't get my head around!
I have the latest release of Winamp Pro (paid for!! ) and LivePro running an FB3. The LP Winamp plug in works fine although there is a slight hassle in that unless you shut down the LP plugin first, Winamp crashes and locks the PC when you try to shut it down! But other than that the beat control works fine.
There is talk of occiloscope traces and other avs files that work? with the plugin thing that suposedly works on Winamp? I have found these from the PL FTP server and installed them in the required Winamp folders - I have found info about this here on PL. I can get them to visualize on Winamp, to music, although they seem very unstable and often slow my PC down while they seem to sort them selves out? ---- Is there a way of projecting these visualizations from my RGB Projector? If so - HOW???

I have spent hours trying to suss it all out but to no avail?
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks
    Jim

    Hi Jim

Have you got a QM2000 or an FB3? (sorry, can't remember).

I think that currently it only outputs to laser via the QM, although I could be wrong about that

Sorry, I can't check the FB3 as I don't own one, but I seem to recall others having problems. The QM works fine.

    Cheers

Ahh... That *may* be the problem then. Maybe best to wait for others to chime in here.

Sorry I can't be of any more help. The only other thing I can think of is that I had issues with the newer versions of Winamp. I eventually downloaded a pretty old version (3.00 I think - can't check as i'm not at home) and that works perfectly with the QM.

On another note, I hope you're managing to get some sleep and that everyone's O.K.

    Cheers

I believe that there are 2 Winamp elements for LivePro

The beat detection is produced by Pangolin and should work on any (Pango) hardware platform.
The visualization plugin was a 3rd party development using the SDK (afaik), so only works for the QM boards (as there's not an FB3 SDK yet)

further; the crash issue is documented. Pangolin advise you to close Winamp before LP.

Justin Frankel (the guy that wrote Winamp *and* Gnutella) is the guy who wrote the Winamp Laser Visualizer plug-in, and yeah - it only works with the QM-2000 board.

I'd love to see this guy attend SELEM some day. He's been there and done that and is essentially semi-retired at age 32. (When AOL bought Winamp, it made Justin a multi-millionare overnight.) He still writes code though, and supposedly he's working on another project now. But he can set his own schedule, which is pretty cool.

Perhaps we could approach him with the idea of re-visiting his original laser visualizer code? While I know an SDK doesn't yet exist for the FB3, I'd be willing to bet that if Justin started playing around with the FB3 with the idea of making a laser visualizer plug-in for it, Bill would help him with whatever tools or documentation he would need.

Does anyone here have any connection to this guy at all? I once read an interview he gave for Wired Magazine, and he wanted desperately to show the interviewer his laser projector on the day he visited Justin's home / workshop, but he couldn't find his fog machine... Definitely sounds like our kind of guy!

Thanks for the info chap's, seems like it's only QM users that get all the bells and whistles then

Not to worry, I will just carry on enjoying LP as it is then

I would be great if the two great minds of Winamp and pango could get together again for a stiff tot
