Default Requesting a bit of help with a fundraiser for my mother - for a very good cause!

Hi all, I realise you've never seen me personally, but i thought i'd post my mothers fund-raising page on JustGiving.com.

On 25th May last year (my mothers birthday! ) my father was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of brain cancer - Gioblastoma multiforme and was given three weeks to live. However, he hung on for a massive 7 months afterwards so a big credit to him!!

We noticed his behaviour had changed dramatically in the few days before we had to take him to hospital, and the news was a bit of a blow to say the least!

Anyway, to cut a long story short, a local hospice called the St Davids Hospice of Wales helped us with all necessary paperwork that needed to be filled out, as well as provide us with a hoist, electric reclining chair & bed, as well as fitting a special shower in the house - about £3000 of equipment, ramps (or house has a LOT of steps! ) and other things like that.

Now we're planning on paying some of that back to them - in July, Mum is going to drive her 1974 VW campervan from Lands end to John O Groats - 2000 miles ish?? yeah i know its not a lot of miles for you USA guys but for our little bit of land in the UK it seems like a lot!!

and i'm going to do a skydive in may sometime when i graduate from uni

This is in no way a heart-string pulling thread ok, I just thought i'd push the boat out there as i want to help mum as much as i can!

the link to her justgiving page is HERE,

Thanks everyone for taking 5 minutes to read this!

    Hi Tom-

Having just lost my brother in October to the exact same brain cancer, i feel your families pain. I am really sorry for what you all are going through. Your mother's cause (and yours) is a great one and I will be donating. Family togetherness is very important at these times. Please be with each other as much as possible. You will learn that the smallest littlest things are going to bring you all comfort!

I'll tell my brother to keep an eye on your dad! He'll be in good company!!

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat privately. I am battling this every day still myself.

yeah, he passed away on december 10th 2008, in a way i was glad he was at peace in a more comfortable place as he was quite uncomfortable towards the end.

I had a pretty rough time as it spanned two exam periods in university - the summer one when we had the bad news, and the winter one when he sadly passed away. luckily though my university allowed me to re-sit all the exams last august - it was a HELL of a lot of revision but i made it through

Its still a pain every day but we're all learning to live with it gradually.

Thanks a bunch for donating a dollar or two, it'll surely put a smile on mums face anyway

and same for you matey, if i can be of any assistance just let me know via PM etc

It's amazing to see people coming together to support one another, even though they live on opposite ends of the planet and have never met . I'll donate when I have some money - completely skint atm.

My thoughts are with both of your families.
