In this first post you will find all information about the new Pangolin BEYOND software such as features, screenshots, pricing, hardware options ect.
As soon as I can I will update this post with more information.

It is compatible with both the LD2000 and QuickShow systems, so users can create content in BEYOND, and move back and forth from either of these platforms.

Pretty neat! Now time for Laser Wolfenstein 3D.

Is the Beyond technology available as an engine? I can think of applications for modeling stuff in 3D and letting Beyond display it interactively. I think Zoof worked on something similar awhile back, though.

zoof did but as far as I know it didn' support real 3D formats other then 3D ilda :/
But it was still cool

Mind you that they have a lot of clients and everyone wants to be the first.

I see the different levels were agreed upon; are the details for each level available? I am surprised there is nothing on the Pangolin website about the release.

A little more information about the level differences:
Quote: "We are still finalizing what features will go in each of the different levels of the software, and this is why for the time being,
we are releasing the "Special Launch Edition" of the software."

Please be patience, I expect that the new website of Beyond with all the information will be released soon and I do not want say too much

Also nice to know is, that if you upgrade your existing package to beyond, all future beyond updates are free for the lifespan of the product.

You dont loose LD2000. You get additional software which also works on ld2000. (if i am correctly informed)

Live pro and Quickshow should not be compared.
Live pro is an amazing product of pangolin and is used all the big gigs
More pangolin users can agree that Live pro is one of pangolins best created product, lets see if BEYOND will beat it.

QM2k is actually made for professional show creation, to sell off.
At least in my opinion, hence all the tools for QM2k.
QM2k is there for a quite a while, I agree. But certainly no reason to hammer it in the ground.

To be fair, this has been coming a long time. It doesn't take much insight to see where the Pangolin controller market was going. FB3 is sufficient for 95% of the users out there, if you are in the other 5% you pay a premium for the extras you won't get on FB3. But as you say, there are workarounds, and in the media control world, ots of options are avalable now that weren't 5 or 10 years ago.

If Beyond live control is also designed to be a successor for LivePro, I'd like to see some sort of upgrade path from that application too.

At the moment, Beyond actually doesn't interest me as I don't do show creation, and I already own LivePro.

Personally, I think I'm better off with LivePRo but I'll wait and see what Beyond brings to the table before deciding to shell out £500+ for Beyond Lite

I would trade my house if a program would exist to create 3D models on the fly.
you would earn 2 houses back if such a program exists.
It's an big investment but it earns itself back quicker then you think.

wow, so since an FB3 is worth about $500 I guess a QM2k system is now worth $600?

why woudl anyone want a PCI card that costs more money, when you can get a tiny USB interface that costs less and now does the EXACT same thing?

I would guess that when it comes down to rendering 3D, the FB3 will be far less capable than the QM 2000 controller.

After 10 years of free upgrades it was pretty obvious that Pangolin would reach a point whereby they'd have to charge for the next generation product, otherwise if they gave every new product out for free, where would the income come from? There aren't endless streams of new professional laserists buying to keep existing ones in free software and like any company Pangolin have wages to pay.

There's no other company out there that's given 10 years worth of free updates and I don't know of any company promising free future updates to its products for their entire lifespan so I reckon its all been a pretty good deal. After 10 years of freebies, a discounted purchase price on top, seems pretty generous.

Other companies have charged hundreds of dollars for every upgrade.

Also, remember the trade in price reflects the cost of the hardware which you keep. You're only paying for the software. I think the discount is for the fact that you don't need a new control board. Again many companies would have just sold you the new package.

3D studio was a predecessor of 3ds max, during the time of development it has completely changed.
Certainly a recommendation to pick up again.
