Cant blame the purchaser for scratching this one can you?
Clearly a case of false advertising as well. Would that be illlegal in the USA?

The problem with the sensor being scratched is that the damage changes the reflectivity. The sensors work on having a calibrated reflectivity and then measuring the heat from the laser. If this reflectivity is off, even by a small amount, then the accuracy of the sensor is still bad.

Here, the scraches change the reflectivity of the sensor which is why you can see them. That means that nowhere on the sensor that has a scrach is as accurite as you would like it to be.

I would immediately file a paypal dispute if you bought this from him. You have plenty of evidence that it was damaged and not even the model you bought.

Wow... this really sux man... this head is of no use. Measuring anythign on this will give you F'd up readings, not to mention it looks like a car ran over it!

I think this now explain the repeated "SALE! SALE! SALE!" and others to bump up the threads... I guess he wanted to get rid of them in a pinch and in a hurry so all are sold before the truth comes out?

Seriously, file a dispute now. I really hope you paid with PP or with a credit card...

FYI,

Mark has contacted me and offerred to exchange the head at his expense. The meter itself is in perfect condition, I would like to keep it. I am sure that Mark and I will be able to work something out. I probably should have contacted him first before posting pictures. I am sorry for misleading anyone.
