Default Keepin' up with the Griswolds...

    Hi folks,

Years ago, one of our clients used Pangolin softare, a laser and some DMX dimmer packs to do a show like this:
    http://www.pangolin.com/_Files/Joes_Garage_06.mov

Since then, the company light-o-rama has popularized this kind of thing for lights, and now there are many "Joes" out there with this kind of capability. Below you will see a picture of the house three doors down from us. We jokingly refer to them as "The Griswolds"...

Well, this year we wanted to do our own part to entertain the neighbors, so we got out the Bliss Light and a small laser projector and we are running shows on our garrage door. You can see a picture below.

While it's not as much of a spectacle as "The Griswolds", what we are showing is entirely Christmas-themed, and it actually tells a story. Now the Griswolds are jealous .

For those wondering about the projector, it is something that Kvant made us special, but since that time, they are going to offer it for sale. You can see a picture of it sitting on my driveway below.

This projector is putting out OVER 1 WATT!! (around 450mW red, 450mW blue and 300mW green -- all measured by me) and is the size of a car battery, but much lighter.

I opened it up and took a picture so you can see it below.

At our request, this projector has REAL CAMBRIDGE 6215 SCANNERS AND CAMBRIDGE AMPS (many projectors have self-made scanner amps or something like that -- we wanted the real thing...).

It's funny just how simple and compact a laser projector can be. This really gives a good illustration of how it can be done.

Also, this projector was shipped to us from Slovakia, and showed up IN ALIGNMENT!! Yes, it is possible to make a projector whose convergence adjustments don't drift .

    Hi Bill

    That's a nice little video

But the projector is quite special, a really beautiful piece of work, thanks for sharing.

Oh, and a very Merry Christmas to yourself and all at Pangolin, and thanks for the great service in 2008

Got any close pics of that? It's extremely tidy. Something to learn from.

Ah yes. I've always wanted to see the inside of one of those.
You wouldn't happen to have some pics of the inside of arctos projectors would you?
(beside the one where someone is aligning, which many of us have already seen)

Interesting blue / red combo lasers. Look almost like homemade twin diode holders!!!

    Very neat inside though.

    Couple of questions though:

    How do you avoid weather?

    How do you avoid theft?

How do you stop people walking up the driveway and looking back into the projector?

pelosh had the same laser from kvant at the recent uklem very nice system, we also were suprised at its size , it was a shame the power switch failed on it after martin took it outside but that is a problem with them switch lights up but the contacts dont pass any power, just so you know bill, it might do it to you

Bill, it's funny, I get this strange sense of excitement from this post! Almost like, "Wow, I just got my first laser projector!" So you gonna pony up and buy yourself a QM2K for it, or just get a sound card DAC and run Laserboy?! I see you didn't waiste any time in putting a "Powered by Pangolin" sticker on it!

Very nice projector, post a video of the show you run on your garage!

That's three. And I second all of them.
